'Freefrom' food is currently the big success story of the food industry. While other sectors remain relatively flat, 'freefrom' continues to power ahead with growth rates of around 15% year on year and a projected turnover of over half billion pounds by 2017 in the UK alone. But why freefrom? What is 'freefrom' food? And why is it growing so fast? The answer is simple - the number of people needing or choosing to eat 'freefrom' is growing just as rapidly. We asked Michelle Berriedale-Johnson, director of the FreeFrom Food and FreeFrom Eating Out Awards, to expand on the 'freefrom' phenomenon.

In this day and age it still seems to be a necessity to pick up and re-home the millions of unwanted pets that people abandon. Aside form the many people that are left, through no fault of their own, unable to keep a beloved pet, there are many more that simple abandon unwanted animals when and if it suits. And it is left up to charities like All Dogs Matter to pick up the pieces and find suitable homes and foster care for some of these unwanted animals.

Family days out could be becoming few and far between, thanks to modern technology. Out of 2000 parents with children that were polled this month (June 2014), over one in three adults admitted to arguing with their partner for checking work emails during family days out, according to a brand new study. Pork Farms, one of Britain's favourite pork pie bakers, commissioned the research to launch its Social Summer campaign, which encourages families and friends to ditch the day-to-day distractions in life and get together more often.

It has just been revealed that British holistic pet-food company Green Dog Food has launched a limited-edition ultra-luxury dog food - Green Dog Gold. A specially-created super-premium complete dog food that features some of the world's most expensive foods in its seafood-inspired recipe, Green Dog Gold ingredients will include swordfish, lobster, Beluga caviar, sea vegetable samphire, saffron, black Périgord truffle and wild brown rice.

The new FreeFrom Eating Out Awards are designed to raise awareness of the opportunities offered to food service providers by the growing numbers of those either needing, or choosing, to eat ‘freefrom’. The awards are being launched to coincide with the build up to the new Food Information Regulations (FIRs) coming into force in December 2014, which will require all food service outlets to provide accurate information about any of the 14 major allergens in the food that they serve.
