A Great British Tea at The Capital

A Great British Tea at The Capital

Launching on Wednesday 9th September, The Capital Afternoon Tea aims to revive traditional British favourites including the Victoria sponge, Bakewell tart and crumpets - all baked by the Michelin-starred team behind Outlaw's at The Capital.

In the spirit of The Great British Bake Off, London's favourite family-owned and family-run hotel in the heart of Knightsbridge, is taking tea back to its roots, to the genuine English experience it once was.

We popped along this week for a preview of the Afternoon Tea menu and were delighted to find The Capital had teamed up with our favourite's Jing Tea and Sipsmith. The champagne of tea, Jing offers a refreshingly clean experience in tea, while Sipsmith pack a distinctive punch to the cocktail creations.

Delicate finger sandwiches were interspersed with sips of tea, and seductively sweet pastries and treats were made with a cocktail accompaniment in mind. The Capital sits neatly in to the area and is a perfect fit for this very British take on Afternoon Tea, combining the advantages of a large establishment with the warmth and attention to detail that only a privately owned luxury hotel can achieve.

You would be hard-pressed to find a more fitting place, to fill the gap between lunch and dinner, than in The Capital's stylish surroundings with Afternoon Tea from 2.30pm to 5pm at a very affordable £29.50 per person. The Capital Christmas TeaA mouth-watering selection of sandwiches, which includes classic cucumber, egg and cress, ham and mustard or smoked mackerel pâté, with sweet treats such as the Neapolitan Ice Cream Sandwich and savoury bites including bacon and mushroom quiche, are being served alongside warm plain and fruit scones, home-made strawberry jam and Devonshire clotted cream.

This delicious spread is accompanied by a selection of Jing's tea blends ranging from timeless favourites such as Earl Grey or Bohea (Lapsang Souchong) to Green tea from Japan or fruit infusions.

The Capital's award-winning Barman, Cesar, has created two perfect afternoon tea cocktails with Sipsmith London Dry Gin for the base.

The Basil Street Spritz: blackcurrant and hibiscus infused tea and Champagne; or the Capital Citrus Blend: marmalade, orange, lime and apple juice, Bohea infused tea and Curaçao. Afternoon Tea with one of these cocktails costs £35 per person.

The Capital Champagne Afternoon Tea comes with a glass of Ayala Champagne and costs £39.50 per person. Prices quoted are per person and include VAT and reservation is advised. Please visit www.capitalhotel.co.uk or call for reservations on 0207 589 5171

If you are planning a day in town then this family-owned classic five star boutique hotel at the heart of Knightsbridge is located on Basil Street, close to Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Knightsbridge underground station, and only a few minutes walk from the Victoria & Albert Museum and Hyde Park.

The Tea menu is available from the 9th September, with a special Christmas Tea on offer throughout December, which will include Brie & Cranberry Rolls, Coronation Turkey on Brown Bread, mince pies, marshmallow snowmen, and of course scones and clotted cream.
