Canines Compete for Top Model Crown

Crufts is not the only important canine competition this year!

Mikki and PetPlanet.co.uk are rolling-out the red carpet for this year's Britain's Next Dog Model competition.

Dog owners across the UK are invited to enter their pets into Britain's Next Dog Model 2012 competition with the chance to become the advertising face of the Mikki grooming brand for the year, as well as take part in an exclusive photo-shoot with Venture Photography worth £1,000.

Launched on Monday 19th March, the competition will run on the Mikki Facebook page for just over four weeks.

Dogs of all breeds, ages and sizes across the UK can be entered by their owners. Simply visit the Britain's Next Dog Model 2012 competition page for details on how to enter and vote.

After an initial period of public voting, the finalists will be put forward to a panel of expert judges including leading pet charity The Blue Cross, Alison Rogers - award-winning groomer, Claire Arrowsmith - pet behaviourist, as well as Mikki and PetPlanet.co.uk representatives.Mikki Model

The winner will be announced on Facebook on the 23rd April at the start of National Grooming Week (23rd-29th April 2012).

The Britain's Next Dog Model competition coincides with National Pet Month and National Grooming Week to help raise awareness of the importance of proactive and effective pet care.

Following a recent independent survey carried out on behalf of the grooming, training and healthcare experts, Mikki, pet owners in Great Britain spend more money on treats, food and vet bills than grooming or training aides. This reflects a lack of investment in preventative care.

There is an important message behind all the fun of Britain's Next Dog Model. Regular grooming plays an important role in any animal's welfare.

It's not all about looking nice - grooming offers a great way for pet owners to spot potential health issues as well as being a great way to bond with a pet.

This is the second year that the Britain's Next Dog Model competition has taken place. In 2011, there were more than 450 entries, with Scout - a four year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel from Buckinghamshire claiming the 2011 title.
