Recycle Week 2011
From the 20th to the 26th June 2011 recycle week will be trying to encourage all of us to do a little bit more with the rubbish we throw away.
This years theme is 'Recycling - Home and Away'.
It's all about the positive cumulative effect we can all make by recycling just a little bit more; whether it's doing more of what we already do at home or starting to recycle at work or while out and about.
What is Recycle Week?
Recycle Week is an annual event and the perfect opportunity to highlight the many ways we can do just a little bit more to help our local environment.
There are lots of easy things we can all do, including:
- recycling glass jars as well as bottles
- recycling things from upstairs as well as downstairs
- reusing, recycling or donating unwanted items
- recycling at school, work or while out and about
What's happening?
One of the great new things happening this year is the partnership between Recycle Now and Keep Britain Tidy. The Keep Britain Tidy campaign has been running for more than 50 years, with the aim of inspiring others to take practical action and tackle litter.
This year, through this partnership, 20-25 local councils in England have come forward to test a scheme which will see the recycling of all the plastic bottles and metal cans collected in their area during the Big Tidy Up events - and hopefully more local authorities will join in too!
To get involved you can register at: www.thebigtidyup.org and a FREE Big Tidy Up kit will be sent to you containing everything you will need.
While Recycle Now will be promoting the Big Tidy Up with Keep Britain Tidy, they also rely on your support to deliver this locally.
So to help get you started they have produced a Recycle Week 2011 - Ideas Guide.
We hope you'll be inspired to join in and recycle for your local community.
Whether you’re an individual – young or old; a community – big or small; a local council letting residents know about your services; or a business or retailer or brand wanting to let people know about the everyday actions and changes you are making to the way you work and the products you sell – Recycle Week 2011, Home and Away, is the ideal time to do this.
