Free-From Extends to Cosmetics and SkinCare
When it comes to being free-from, it is important to remember to carry this over into your cosmetics and skincare products too - as many ingredients are still absorbed into the body through the skin - and can cause irritation even when you don't 'eat' them orally.
Last months Free-From Skin Care Awards brought to light some great companies who are available to help you negotiate the cosmetic and skin care minefield in a free-from way!
Tropic Skin Care's Smoothing Cleanser with Organic Bamboo Cloth took top honours in the third annual 'Free From' Skincare Awards, winning the Overall Award for Best 'Free From' Skincare Product. Including green tea and eucalyptus to brighten the complexion and jojoba and avocado to nourish and hydrate, the Cleanser was the winner in the Face Care 'Take off' Category, and was well ahead of five runners-up: Blend Collective's Unwinding Soap Bar (category winner in the Hard Soaps category), Elixirs of Life's Gardeners Life Hand Cream (winner of Hand, Nail and Foot Care), Green People's Cell Enrich Facial Oil (winner of Oils and Oil Serums), Herbfarmacy's Mallow Beauty Balm (winner of Face Care 'Leave On') and Lavera's Lavera Men Sensitive Moisturising Face Cream (winner of Men's Grooming).
Other category winners included Nom Nom Skincare's Organic Pregnancy Stretch Butter Camillia and Vanilla (Family Skincare category - sponsored by NATorigin) and Toulou Organics' Nourishing-Vanilla Pod, Aloe Vera & Baobab Body Crème (Body Care 'Leave On' category - sponsored by Spiezia Organics).
Botanicals were awarded Best Free From Skincare Brand, with Green People, Aurelia and Tropic Skincare runners-up.
The awards were presented at the new Love Natural, Love Organic show at Olympia, by 'Imperfectly Natural' beauty and holistic health guru, Janey Lee Grace.
The announcements followed a long, four-stage judging process which included a rigorous month-long assessment by testers recruited by the free-from Skincare Awards' associates, the Ultimate Natural Beauty Bible.
"The standard was far higher this year, and all winners and medallists performed exceptionally well and demonstrated terrific free from properties. Like last year, it was particularly encouraging to see many smaller or boutique brands holding their own among the big guys - and often beating them!"
