Introducing the UK's First New Chickpea Crispbread from Easy Bean

Based on a farm in South Somerset, Easy Bean, the producers of those fabulously wholesome little pots of food-to-go, has launched a new "bean" inspired, gluten-free crispbread to compliment their range.

Company founder Christina Baskerville has added the new Chickpea Crispbread to her pioneering range of one-pot meals, which she launched six years ago.

The crispbread are a UK first. Handmade at the newly installed bakery in Somerset and made using chickpea flour rather than wheat flour, they are naturally gluten-free, wheat-free, high in fibre and suitable for vegetarians. Crisp, crumbly and irresistibly moreish, Easy Bean use nutty-tasting chickpea flour and buttermilk from local farms and carefully season and generously top the crispbreads with toasted seeds for extra crunch. Easy Bean CrispbreadThere are three varieties - Moroccan Spice; Seeds & Black Pepper; Mung Bean & Chive.

Already with a string of awards including two Gold Great Taste Awards 2013, they are available nationally from independent stockists - health food stores, delis, farm shops as well as from Holland & Barrett and Amazon.

Chickpea flour is also known as gram flour and is used widely in Indian cuisine, for example, to make pakoras, poppadoms and onion bhajias. Easy Bean's chickpea flour is milled from imported channa dhal at a gluten-free mill.

We taste tested all three varieties of Easy Bean crispbread and have to say they are indeed very moorish and a really tasty treat; the perfect accompaniment to the Easy Bean one pot meals.

Our only concern would be that they are very high in saturated fats and salt so would advise caution in consumption. The addition of the salted butter and buttermilk has turned these delightful low fat peas into a bit of a couch potato by some people's standards, but the move away from real fats is now reversing - so load us up! Our favourite pick from the trio has to be the Mung Bean & Chive, closely followed by the Moroccan Spice. In moderation, they will be a great new addition to the Easy Bean range.
