It is his mission this July to bring people together in a celebration of the core of Camden - the counter- cultural, the underground, the joyful and the down-right odd. Offering lovers of the best in culture to become part of The New Camden Group.

Camden has always been something special; serendipitous, rebellious, adventurous, felicitous and always going against the grain. It is full of secret venues, unexpected gatherings, small gigs, lost rivers, hidden catacombs, under-the-radar artists and subterranean stories.

Generations of artists, musicians, dandies, poets, bohemians, adventurers, visionaries and drop-outs have made their way from all over the world to Camden to contribute to its legendary status.

A motley crew has played, lived, partied and got inspired in Camden. People like Mary Shelley, Sigmund Freud, Ian Fleming, Virginia Woolf , Karl Marx, Krishna Menon, Beryl Bainbridge, Dylan Thomas, Peter Sellers, Sylvia Plath, Claudia Jones and many more known and unknown unique people.

It's always been a melting pot, we're hoping this new site will draw the right kind of parallels.

The events (either pre-existing or initiated by Coney) have been selected to explore the multifaceted cultural communities and subcultures that populate the area, as well as revealing hidden places, enlivening stunning spaces and celebrating the ethos of Camden and all it encompasses.

The program will integrate selected pre-existing events including the many museums and galleries of the borough as well as ones that we are bringing to the borough like Tom Bolton's Lost River Walks.

Francesca Gavin, Dazed & Confused's visual arts editor, will chat counter-culture with contemporary artists, Strange Attractor will play with live electricity and theremins in a very dark space, and alternative market tours will take place for only the most eager of adventurers.

Mr Eks' Camden players are more than just listings, and more than just events, they are a way of predicting what it is that you could do with your time, they are a way of exciting you about the most exciting borough. The website is more than just a website - it's a view into your future with a combination of peculiar, odd and sub-cultural or subversive events.

Mr Eks' Camden Players was an incredible way to bring the magic of Camden to life to a wide audience. Camden continues to have a rich mix of events and I'm delighted that as a Council we have been able to support this innovative way of engaging both residents and visitors to Camden in the wide range of activities available over the summer.

Mr Eks will be both appealing to the young, old, bohemian and adventurers who flock to Camden to experience the counter culture that makes Camden a unique place to visit.
