Mayor of London Opens EcoVelocity

The Mayor, Boris Johnson opened EcoVelocity, the largest European low carbon motor festival - in support of his vision to make London the electric vehicle leader of Europe.

The Mayor officially launched the show by leading a cavalcade of vehicles around the innovative EcoVelocity test track.

The unique four-day low carbon outdoor motoring festival from September 8 - 11 at Battersea Power station will bring to life a new world of motoring for prospective buyers that are keen to gather information and experience the latest in eco-transport.Boris

Visitors will not only get the chance to see, up close and personal, a range of electric and low carbon vehicles from some of the world’s leading manufacturers but also the opportunity to test drive electric vehicles providing many with their first taste of the electric vehicle driving experience against the backdrop of the iconic power station.

The Mayor recently launched London's largest electric charge point network to support the uptake of greener vehicles. Source London currently has over 200 publicly accessible charge points installed with the aim of having 1,300 points in place by 2013.

Increasing the number of charge points will make more electric vehicle drivers feel able to top up while out and about, reducing fears of 'range anxiety' and giving them the confidence to switch to electric vehicles.

By creating a single city wide network, Source London is removing the need for drivers to sign up with each charge point owner or borough.

To inform current and potential drivers of this and other benefits of the system a section of the show will be dedicated to Source London with staff on hand to provide in-depth information about the network.

Manufacturers showing their latest low carbon vehicles will be Citroen, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, SEAT, Toyota, Lexus, Vauxhall, Volvo, Volkswagen and Mia Electric.

The EcoVelocity motoring festival is organised by IMIE, organisers of the British Motor Show and Metro, the World’s largest free newspaper with 3.3 million daily readers across 50 cities nationwide.

EcoVelocity fully complements Source London's journey to improve the air quality of London and to place London as the electric vehicle capital of Europe. London is a great venue for this industry first, where London goes the rest are sure to follow. The festival will show motorists lots of no compromise everyday personal transport solutions that will reduce their carbon footprint.
