Get Ready for Chocolate Week 2012
Chocolate Week, the nation's favourite themed week, returns for an eighth consecutive year in 2012, celebrating the world of fine chocolate from 8th -14th October 2012.
Highlights of this year's week include an experiential chocolate cocktail event, the UK première of documentary film Nothing Like Chocolate and Chocolate Unwrapped, a deliciously indulgent consumer exhibition taking place in Covent Garden, October 13th -14th.
2011 saw over 350 events taking place around the UK, and even more are expected in 2012, with the country's top chocolatiers and chocolate companies, as well as hotels, bars and restaurants celebrating by hosting talks, tastings, demonstrations and sampling, as well as creating exclusive products, new launches, offers, chocolate meals, cocktails and recipes using some of the best chocolate brands from around the world.
A new documentary, focusing on the work of Mott Green and The Grenada Chocolate Company will have its UK première during Chocolate Week.
"Nothing Like Chocolate", narrated by Susan Sarandon, exposes how the cocoa bean has moved from being a sacred plant to merely a cog in the corporate exploitation of large portions of the world and celebrates the work of Mott, whose co-operative The Grenada Chocolate Company is a shining example of how chocolate can be produced ethically and sustainably.
Directed by Kum Kum Bhavnani, the film was awarded Best of the Fest at Santa Barbara International Film Festival and Best Documentary at the ITN Los Angeles Film Festival and received nominations for several other international film festivals, including Best Documentary at the Milan International Film Festival.
The UK premiere of the film takes place at the Ritzy cinema in Brixton on Monday 8th October. The first public screening will take place after hours at Chocolate Unwrapped on Saturday 13th October. Registration for the screening will open in October.
