Cheese On The Green 2011
A weekend of cheese is coming your way.
From 8th - 10th September 2011 Cheese On The Green brings you the Great British Cheese Awards, established in 1994 by Juliet Harbutt to raise the profile of British cheese and create a recognised symbol of excellence for all British cheese.
In 2000 the Great British Cheese Festival was added to educate and inspire the consumer. Together these events have become a highly successful marketing campaign for British cheese, cheesemakers and cheese retailers.
The British cheese Awards celebrate the extraordinary diversity and quality and the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals have become a symbol of excellence for the very best of British.
Thursday 8th September
Over 900 cheeses from around 200 British cheesemakers are expected to enter this year and will be laid out in a marquee on the Village Green in Churchill, a quintessentially English village in the Cotswolds.
British & Irish cheeses will be judged in a big tent on Churchill Village Green by 60 cheese experts and the results are announced on Friday 23rd September.
Entries will include around:
- 750 vegetarian cheeses
- 170 raw milk cheeses
- 117 cheddars
- 95 new cheeses
- 56 blue cheeses
- 40 ewes milk cheeses
- 11 buffalo milk cheeses
Judging takes place of the 900 by 'invitation only'.
Once the 60 judges have awarded the medals and chosen Supreme Champion 2011 you will have a chance to share these magnificent cheeses by participating in one of three small, unrivalled and intimate events for anyone who wants to get up close and personal to over 900 traditional and modern British cheeses.
