Torbay Week 2011

Torbay Week 2011

Torbay Week has fast proved to be one of the best regattas on the South Coast and we're sure this year will be just as successful with great racing for a wide variety of sailing vessels, along with tons of after-sail fun at Torbay's sailing and yachting clubs.

The event will consist of up to six courses for six days running from Friday 19th to Wednesday 24th August 2011.

Entries can now be made online for the fourth Torbay Week, combining the efforts of the four English Riviera sailing clubs - Babbacombe Corinthian Sailing Club, Brixham Yacht Club, Paignton Sailing Club and Royal Torbay Yacht Club.

As in previous years, Torbay Week coincides with the Torbay Royal Regatta, which provides off-the-water activities and entertainment around the Bay, with highlights in Torquay of the fair, a spectacular fireworks display on MondayTorbay Week 23rd August and the Red Arrows on Wednesday 25th August.

Again this year there will be spectator cruises run by Greenway Ferry and Pleasure Cruises.

"Sea-Fari" cruises aboard the Riviera Belle will run (subject to weather conditions) from Torquay's Princess Pier and a further cruise around the headland to Dartmouth aboard the Fairmile, will set off to coincide with the Passage Race.

The main series of sailing races will start on Saturday, finishing on Wednesday with the traditional passage race from Brixham to Dartmouth for keelboats entering Dartmouth Sailing Week.

IRC keelboats will have nine races over four days with prizes awarded for three classes and the prestigious Admiral's Cup trophy for the winning team of three boats from the same club or regional affiliation of clubs. For PY yachts and Sonatas there will be a six-race series with a stand alone coastal race on the Tuesday. A separate course is planned for Sportsboats if entry numbers are sufficient.

Dinghies will have three courses - one for mixed handicap boats competing in eight races over three days, the second for two national championships and the last for juniors competing in two classes in eight races over four days.

We're delighted that, following their participation in Torbay Week 2008, the Buzz and ISO dinghy associations will again be having their championships with us as part of Torbay Week 2011.

Throughout the week there will be free berthing at town moorings for all visiting boats and free launching for any dinghies taking part. There will also be the usual parties, live music and après-sail after racing in the four clubs.

David Homer, Torbay Week Director

In addition to the series prizes and awards, this year Torbay Week will also present daily race prizes.

Entry can be made using the online payment system on the Torbay Week website or manually by sending an application form which can be found on the website to the administration department c/o Royal Torbay Yacht Club, Beacon Terrace, Torquay, TQ1 2BH.
