The Great Cheese Race 2012

The Great Cheese Race 2012

With Caerphilly's annual Big Cheese Festival only a month away, its time to make this summer one to remember with one of the highlights of the weekend - the Great Cheese Race!

Set in the shadows of one of Europe's largest Castles the town of Caerphilly comes to life as people of all ages come to The Big CheeseĀ®, an extravaganza of street entertainers, living history encampments, music, dance, traditional funfair, folk dancing, falconry, fire eating, minstrels, troubadours and much more.

The Big Cheese is a 'must see' Big Cheeseattraction for all visitors.

Portraying the history, heritage and culture of Caerphilly, the 2011 event attracted over 80,000 people. Families from all over the country flocked to Caerphilly to experience this fun filled programme of activities and entertainment.

The Big Cheese weekend is a FREE event and over 80,000 people are expected again in 2012.

Children and adults alike are encouraged to take part in the Great Cheese Race - a fun run around a special course which takes participants around the grounds of the magnificent castle, with fancy dress adding to the laughter and enjoyment.

Every year teams line up to take part in the race. All entrants will receive a certificate and medal, with overall winners for best fancy dress and each race.

This year the fancy dress theme is the Olympics.
