The Grand National at Aintree
In 1839 a horse called Lottery won the first Grand National and Captain Becher parted company with his horse at a now famous brook to signify the start of a British sporting institution.
The Grand National 14th April is a race synonymous with Red Rum, a horse who captured the nation's hearts.
Trained on the beaches of Southport, Red Rum went on to win three Grand Nationals.
The Festival is three full days of stories and wonder and the highest quality jump racing in the UK.
Starting with Liverpool Day on the 12th April, followed by Ladies Day on the 13th April and culminating with the worlds greatest steeplechase, the 2012 Grand National on Saturday the 14th April.
