Food and Drink Festival Gets Set for Seventh Successful Show

An historic market town in North Wales is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors to its seventh food and drink festival in September.

The hugely popular Mold Food & Drink Festival, a True Taste Wales Festival, will be held on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd September in New Street car park, close to the town centre.

Last year the festival attracted over 12,500 visitors from the local area and across Wales and England to become the biggest annual event to take place in North East Wales.

Since it began the festival has aimed to showcase the variety and quality of locally produced food and drink, Moldand the high standard of catering and hospitality available in the region.

This year organisers are also encouraging fledgling local businesses in the food and drink sector to exhibit at the festival by offering them a free space within the Enterprise Zone.

With the current challenging economic climate, the festival is an ideal opportunity for new businesses to gain exposure, network with other exhibitors to explore potential collaborative working opportunities and also to promote their products to the public.

In the lead up to the Festival weekend there will be a Festival Restaurant Trail encouraging people to visit Mold and explore the culinary delights on offer.

Launching on Saturday 1st September and running through to the end of the Festival on Sunday 23rd September, the Festival Restaurant Trail includes over twenty of the town's independent cafes and restaurants.

Each one has created an exclusive menu or special offer that is only available for the Trail period.

From a traditional Welsh afternoon tea or a delicious three course lunch to a gastronomic Welsh dinner or a taste of the Mediterranean, this is a great opportunity to discover the fantastic variety and quality of cuisine available in this foodie town, all at fantastic prices too!

The Festival is set to host over 100 exhibitors this year including Harvies Pies, Celtic Country Wines, Snowdonia Cheese, North Wales Buffalo, The Little Round Cake Company, Rosies Triple D Cider, North Wales Brewery, and Riverford Organic to name but a few.

Many of the stalls will be offering samples so you can 'try before you buy' and with such a wide variety of exhibitors there will be something to appeal to even the most discerning of tastes!

In addition, an extensive programme of events will run on both days in the Rangemaster Cookery Theatre, the Interactive Zone and the outdoor entertainment areas.

Award-winning celebrity chefs will be demonstrating their culinary expertise with Graham Tinsley and Brian Aldo ZilliMellor entertaining visitors and cooking their speciality dishes on the Saturday and Aldo Zilli, who specialises in seafood and Italian cuisine, taking centre stage for three demonstrations on the Sunday.

There will also be local chef competitions plus fun foodie activities and workshops where the whole family can learn something new.

Live entertainment will be performed throughout the weekend from a host of artists and bands playing everything from rock and jazz to folk and reggae.

The outdoor food court is the perfect place to take a seat, listen to the music and enjoy some delicious food with a drink, or two!

Creating a bit of a buzz will be the local beekeeping association! Members will be bringing observation hives to provide visitors with a glimpse into the fascinating world of bees and honey production with a chance to taste a selection of local honeys and learn more about their medicinal benefits.

Following its successful launch last year, the Best of Welsh Bake-Off Competition, which is run in conjunction with the WI, is on the look out for the best Welsh cakes. Amateur home bakers are invited to bring their entries to the festival on Saturday where they will be professionally judged by the WI and guest judges.

Celebrity Chef Aldo Zilli will be presenting the winners with their prizes on Sunday afternoon!

The Mold Food & Drink Festival makes a perfect day out for all the family and, with no increase in admission prices for the past four years, it's fantastic value too. Parking is easy with a free Park & Ride service operating frequently from County Hall into Mold town centre.

Doors open to the public from 10am-8pm on Saturday (exhibitors close at 5pm.)

Tickets cost £3.50 for adults, £1.50 for children aged 3-12, and £8.00 for a family of 2 adults and 2 children.
