Sopwell House Appoints Head Chef Gopi Chandran

Grand Georgian property Sopwell House in St Albans is proud to announce Gopi Chandran as their new Executive Head Chef.

Set to dazzle the hotel guests with his culinary expertise and unique creative flair, both the team at Sopwell House and Gopi himself are excited to see where his creativity and passion will take them.Gopi Chandran

Arriving in London from India in 2002, Gopi, with over 20 years of experience at international 5-star properties, has progressed at an impressive rate throughout his career. Starting as an apprentice at the Taj group of hotels in India, he worked his way up to Head Chef at various luxury hotels in London and abroad, including several Marriott hotels.

Another of his talents is to take any traditional dish that is well known and loved by many and to re-create with his own personality.

At Sopwell House, all dishes primarily use fresh, locally sourced ingredients that naturally change with the seasons. Currently, these ingredients are not grown in their own gardens, however, this is something their new executive head chef is looking to introduce. Chef Chandran places great value on using only seasonal, local produce when crafting his exquisite dishes.

"As a modern Chef who consistently aims to achieve high culinary standards, I strive to enhance guest experiences, understanding in full their wants and needs, delivering a high quality and diverse range of foods. I have already had the chance to interact with guests, inviting some of them into the kitchen to join me in unleashing creativity, and I am very keen to surprise guests at Sopwell House with outstanding international dishes and new takes on traditional favourites."

With more and more hotels and houses adopting a 'grow your own' policy, and using seasonal, local produce where ever it is available, it means that you can still dine out in style while knowing that the hotel you are staying at is still doing its part to support the local community.
