Exciting Finds: Yorkshire Sea Salt
It's not something we get excited about on a daily basis but we do love salt - good salt. We don't use it excessively but feel if the quality fits then salt has an essential place in our cooking and our diets. So when we were introduced to Yorkshire Sea Salt by Richard Devany at IFE 2026 we couldn't resist a quick taste-test of the products the company had to offer.
"Restoring a 6000 year old local tradition, we are the first salt house to produce sea salt in Yorkshire since the neolithic era. Our aim is to reinstate a long-lost local tradition to the area using modern methods of production that have a low environmental impact and produce the purest, 100% natural, mineral rich sea salt. Created by the Earth, harvested by us.
Sea salt has been forged by the Earth for millennia, infusing it with ancient minerals and nutrients that benefit our all-round health. Formed off the rugged, geologically unique coastline of North Yorkshire and fed by nutrient rich seagrass meadows and ancient kelp forests, our pure, hand hauled sea salt has a mineral structure unique to our coastline. 100% natural sea salt, nothing else.We care deeply about protecting the rich ecosystems in our seas. It is our aim to reduce our environmental footprint at every stage of production from sea to store; from energy efficient processing methods to bio-compostable packaging."
Yorkshire Sea Salt
Available in three varieties: Regular, Oak Smoked, and Chilli Flakes: -
- The Regular salt is 'salty' - yes, we know that sounds odd but it really tastes like a clean, salty, sea salt. Straight on the tongue and a perfect hit of clean salt.
- Oak Smoked is great if you like the smokey flavour. This is one for Andy as he loves smoked foods but I am more of a purest.
- Chilli Flakes - Sarah was happy with the chilli flakes option, she just loves the heat.
