Ultimate London Sightseeing Soldier Style
As marathon madness takes over the Capital get set for the next urban adventure to combine fitness with exploring London's iconic landmarks - the second annual Soldier Challenge on 19th May 2012.
ABF The Soldiers' Charity is inviting London-lovers to compete in the Soldier Challenge, a test of logistics and planning, as well as fitness and fun.
During a four hour window on Saturday 19th May 2012 Soldier Challenge participants will set out from an event village in Waterloo station's former international terminal and complete as many of 35 military-themed tasks as possible.
Offering a rare chance to explore normally prohibited areas of London sights such as the Imperial War Museum and Tower of London, the Soldier Challenge is a great way to see more of the Capital.
The full details of Challenge tasks are only revealed on the day of the event - to score highly in the Soldier Challenge requires clever planning on which tasks to undertake and how to quickly get between them. Teams taking part in the Soldier Challenge can run, walk, catch the bus or tube to reach checkpoints and challenges. Boris bikes and private transport are strictly off limits.
Highlights of last year's event - and rumoured to be making a return in the 2012 Soldier Challenge due to popular demand - including abseiling down the front of the Oval cricket ground, kayaking in the River Thames and an obstacle course at the Tower of London, plus many more fun activities such as beer mat flipping.
The event is open to teams of between two and four people. Participants must be aged 14 or over.
Entry costs £50 and participants are asked to raise £150 each. Anyone who hits this minimum fundraising target will have £15 of their entry fee refunded back to them.
