Enjoy Marmalade Season with The East India Company

As marmalade season is upon us, with Marmalade Week running from 1st - 8th March, what better way is there to pay tribute to the British staple than to enjoy a steaming hot cup of tea or coffee, paired with a perfectly toasted and buttery piece of bread - topped off with marmalade.

The East India Company's marmalade range is perfect for both every day eating and for those who want something slightly more indulgent. With six different types of marmalade on offer, everyone is bound to find something to suit their palate.

"Marmalade is an old English favourite and one the lovely people at The East India Company have spruced up. We got the chance to sample a couple of pots from their marmalade range and were delighted at the flavours.Grapefruit & Lime with Silver Leaf - EIC Marmalade

The range includes your staple Fine Cut Seville marmalade, which is great for everyday eating, to the far more indulgent Orange Marmalade with Gold Leaf.

At £3.95 a jar, the Fine Cut Seville marmalade is a perfect example of what orange marmalade should taste like. The flavour comes out immediately, without a waxy, artificial taste and has the tangy bite marmalade is synonymous with.

The Grapefruit and Lime was a firm favourite with all who tried it. The unusual combination caught my eye immediately and it did not disappoint. Despite having two citrus fruits contained within, it was not as sharp as you would expect. A very pleasant flavour with a little decadence in the form of the silver leaf for a reasonable £14.95 - a bit over normal budget but so worth it.

If you're looking for a little luxury on your breakfast table that exceeds what the mainstream supermarkets can provide, these are definitely the way to go.

At £18.95, the Orange Marmalade with Gold Leaf is probably not something you would have every day but would make a wonderful gift or show piece when you have guests.

Embracing the traditional as well as some more unusual flavour combinations, the range on offer provides the perfect addition to any breakfast table.

Fine Cut Orange Marmalade (£3.95) - A well-set light, Seville orange, fine cut marmalade with a tangy citrus flavour.

Grapefruit & Lime Marmalade with Silver Leaf (£14.95) - With its zesty grapefruit and lime back notes, fresh citrus aromas and fine silver leaf, this marmalade brings a little indulgent, luxurious fun to the breakfast table.East India Company Marmalade

Orange Marmalade with Whisky (£6.95) - The East India Company’s Orange Marmalade with Whisky is made from a combination of Seville oranges and whisky.

Thick cut Orange Marmalade - dark (£3.95) - A marmalade with a fuller citrus, chunky bite and a stronger all-round robust flavour when compared to lighter marmalades.

Orange Marmalade with Brandy (£6.95) - An enticing alternative to the classic orange marmalade.

Orange Marmalade with gold leaf (£18.95) - A quintessentially British marmalade, made by traditional means, using only the finest hand-picked Seville oranges. The East India Company has brought a modern twist to an age-old recipe by infusing alluring edible gold leaf flakes together with a velvety smooth marmalade with chunky pieces of zesty Seville orange rind.

From the 18th century onwards, a true marmalade became synonymous with citrus fruits, particularly the bitter Seville orange. Marmalade was one of the many delicious treats that The East India Company used for breakfasts on voyages and later shared with the rest of the world, whereupon orange marmalade became a staple of the Indian breakfast.

The East India Company also hosts a collection of over 120 different teas and over 40 coffees, all of which are available nationwide from www.theeastindiacompanyfinefood.com - or from the flagship The East India Company store at 7-8 Conduit Street, Mayfair, London W1S 2XF.
