Have a Spamtastic Time During National BBQ Week
National BBQ Week starts on May 27th and for those looking for something a bit different to share on the BBQ this year SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham have developed some delicious alfresco recipes.

SPAM® BBQ Kebabs
Ingredients
- 1 x 340g can of SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham cut into 1" cubes
- 1 x Red Pepper - cut into l" cubes
- 1 x Yellow Pepper - cut into 1" cubes
- Large Red Onion - cut into quarters and each quarter halved horizontally to give 8 pieces/chunks
- 8 x Chestnut mushrooms
- Vegetable oil for brushing
- 1 x small jar Mango chutney (optional)
- Kebab sticks - which have previously been soaked in water
Procedure
- Thread cubes of SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham on to soaked kebab sticks alternating with the vegetables to give a colourful portion.
- Brush the kebabs with oil and a little Mango chutney if using and place on the hot BBQ, turning them over until all the SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham and vegetables are nicely browned all over and cooked.
SPAM® Tortilla Sandwiches
Ingredients
- 1 x 34Og can SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham - cut into medium slices
- 4 x Large Tortillas
- 1 x large pack Mozzarella or cheese of choice - sliced
- 1 x small bottle sweet chilli sauce
- 1 x packet of rocket or salad leaves
- 1 x tablespoon of vegetable oil
Procedure
- Light brush slices of SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham with oil and fry or BBQ.
- Sandwich together the SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham with sliced Mozzarella, rocket or salad leaves inside the tortillas then drizzled with a little sweet chilli sauce.
- Toast the tortillas on the hot BBQ ensuring you turn over when they start to brown.
- When the cheese starts to ooze out of the sandwich they are ready and can be cut into quarters and served.
SPAM® Steak Sandwich
Ingredients
- 1 x 200g can of SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham - cut into medium slices
- 1 x French Baguette
- Mustard or Garlic Mayonnaise
- 1 x large onion sliced into rings
- 1 x garlic clove - peeled
- Vegetable oil for frying
Procedure
- Cut the baguette in half long-ways, rub each side with a little garlic and toast under a grill or on a BBQ.
- Onion rings can either be fried or put into a tin foil parcel with a little oil and cooked on a BBQ. If using a frying pan, add a little oil into the pan and sauté the onion rings slowly until golden.
- Fry or lightly BBQ the SPAM® Steaks until lightly golden both sides.
- Cut the baguette open and spread with the Mayonnaise on both sides.
- Lay the SPAM® Steaks along the length of the bread and add a layer of lightly browned onion rings.
- Serve with Tomato salsa or coleslaw.
