Wrexham and District National Eisteddfod
Welcome to the 2011 Wrexham and District National Eisteddfod (a Welsh festival of literature, music and performance) where there will be plenty of fun and activities on the Maes from 30 July - 6 August 2011.
Wrexham is a border town and a town with a long and fascinating link with the National Eisteddfod for many generations. This year, the Eisteddfod celebrates a century and a half in its current form; and where better to host this special festival than Wrexham!
Many people in north Wales look to Wrexham as their main town, and Eisteddfod Week is a chance to show the whole of Wales and beyond what the area has to offer.
It's a beautiful region, home to a World Heritage Site in Pontcysyllte, and the town itself is busy and bustling, with plenty to see and do - the perfect location for Wales' leading festival.
Lower Berse Farm, off Ruthin Road, Wrexham, is home to this year's Eisteddfod, and it is back on agricultural land for the week.
The caravan site is adjacent to the Maes itself and every one of the 730 sites have been allocated.
This is the Eisteddfod's first visit to the area since 1977, and the 150,000 -160,000 visitors expected to attend are in for a treat.
There's so many activities and events for people of all ages across the Maes again this year, with the Eisteddfod itself and the hundreds of businesses and organisations exhibiting at the festival all offering a packed programme of activities throughout the week.
With plenty to see and do from morning 'till night and a feast of entertainment in Wrexham every evening.
The Pavilion plays host to some of our greatest stars during the week, and Wales' top bands and groups will be appearing at Maes B - the pop festival, held this year at Glyndwr University - Wrexham’s top venue - with two stages from mid week onwards.
Maes C offers a more eclectic mix of music, poetry and comedy, and it's very convenient for the Maes - next to the caravan site and adjacent to the Maes itself, in Ysgol Clywedog Leisure Centre on Ruthin Road.
