World Autism Awareness Day

World Autism Awareness Day

World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) is on Monday 2nd April and there are loads of ways you can show your support.

There are over 500,000 people with autism in the UK - that's 1 in 100.

Together with their families, that's over two million people whose lives are touched by autism every single day.

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people and the world around them.

It is a spectrum condition, which means that, while all people with autism share certain areas of difficulty, their condition will affect them in different ways.

Asperger syndrome is a form of autism.

If you want to get involved and help to raise money and show your support, here are three great ideas to get you started.:

  • update your Facebook status to tell your friends you are supporting World Autism Awareness Day
  • raise awareness in your community by telling someone about your experience of autism
  • host your own fundraising event for the NAS or get involved in the WAAD Skydive

Whatever you decide to do, however big or small, NAS want to hear about it - so get in touch with the web team at community.manager@nas.org.uk and they can list your event on their page.

Check out some of the events already taking place across the UK for World Autism Awareness Day.
