Taste of Cumbria Joins British Food Fortnight

Taste Cumbria Food Festival 24 - 25 September will fly the regional flag for part of British Food Fortnight. Organisers of the popular festival announced that it will be part of the region's offering of activities that make up British Food Fortnight.

After the huge success of 2010, Taste Cumbria Food Festival returns to the pretty Georgian town of Cockermouth.

Foodie activities and events will be located in venues throughout the town, including a Celebrity Cookery Theatre, Taste Cumbriawith Master-classes and demonstrations from some of Cumbria’s hottest culinary talents.

Get up close and personal in hourly masterclasses from an impressive line-up of expert chefs and cooks.

Learning first hand about local produce, its seasonality, where to buy and how to cook it, these classes are equally informative and interactive with lots of audience participation (plus plenty of tasty free samples too!)

Budding chefs can learn hints and tips in the Children’s Interactive Zone, whilst the Small Producers’ Market is a great opportunity to stock up on Cumbrian specialities and try some tasty new ideas!

Wordsworth House
Come and indulge in the sweet taste of history at Wordsworth House and Garden. Explore William Wordsworth's childhood home and garden. Find out what he, his family and others in eighteenth century Cockermouth would have eaten and book in for a tasting session.

Get hands on in the working Georgian kitchen, improve your knowledge of eighteenth century fruit and vegetables on a garden tour and finish off with delicious seasonal home made cakes in the cafe. Delicious local food will also be available to purchase in the National Trust shop.

The Food Court - Main Street
Serving hot food and tasty treats from stalls located around the Main Street festival site, a whole smorgasbord of Cumbrian producers and local restaurants will be selling their wares. Take home a variety of Cumbrian favourites, from authentic Cumberland sausages to pickles and preserves to recreate dishes and inspire you to try out your own ideas.

Beer ‘n’ Bangers festival marquee
Beer ‘n’ Bangers will be at Taste Cumbria with a number of Cumbrian breweries and will be offering tasters of their award winning ales as well as mini-kegs and bottles to purchase.
