Searching the 'Free From' Market

Searching the 'Free From' Market

With the Allergy and Free-From Show at Olympia this month from the 18th - 20th May, we continue our search for the best free-from products available today.

What we try to bear in mind when we review products is that we will never find the 'perfect' product for everyone. We will not find the best bread for everyone. Because we all have a different vision of what the best is.

What we are looking for is a good quality, affordable alternative for anyone on a restricted diet.

With much of the 'free-from' food presently available, many of the portion and product sizes are much smaller than the norm but carry a heftier price tag.

Is this greed on the manufacturers part? Or rising costs to ensure dedicated factories and work areas are kept free from allergens and cross contamination? Or does it arise from the cost involved in producing on a smaller scale?

We would hope to see this change when more people demand 'free-from’ food and in doing so, encourage stores to buy in greater bulk while helping the producers to keep the costs down.

If your local store or food chain doesn’t stock the produce you want to buy, you should consider contacting their customer service departments.

And if you have found a great free-from product or supplier, then let us know so that we can share the news with our readers and explore the choices available to those on a restricted diet.
