Plymouth Reveals Party Plans for Queen's Diamond Jubilee
With just 100 days to go until the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, Plymouth City Centre Company has revealed plans for Plymouth's biggest street party!
Plymouth plans to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee in style include full coverage of the London celebrations on the BBC Big Screen and a traditional street party for the whole community on the city centre Piazza on Sunday 3rd June.
The Diamond Jubilee, celebrating 60 years of reign by Queen Elizabeth II, will take place from Saturday 2nd until Tuesday 5th June 2012 and will be only the second in British history, following that of Queen Victoria in 1897.
The street party we threw for the Royal Wedding last year was a roaring success with around 2,000 people turning out on the Piazza dressed in patriotic red, white and blue, to share in an iconic moment in history. For an occasion as special as the Queen's Diamond Jubilee we’re looking to build on this success and create another fantastic community focussed event right here in the city centre for everyone to enjoy.
Richard Davis, Chairman of Plymouth City Centre Company
The street party - part of the nationwide Big Lunch event - will be the focus of Plymouth's celebrations, it will be free to attend and will feature music, street entertainment and food stalls as well as live streaming of the Diamond Jubilee Pageant on the River Thames.
The weekend of the Diamond Jubilee is going to be a wonderful celebration and I can't wait to see Plymouth pull out all the stops and mark the occasion with this fantastic event in the city centre.
