Latitude Festival 2011
On 14th - 17th July in the sumptuous surrounds of the Suffolk countryside, the welcoming daisy-adorned gates will open for the 6th edition of the magical and fantastical Latitude Festival.
Since its inception in 2006, Latitude has changed the face of festivals forever, with a passion only matched by its ambition. Encompassing all aspects of the art and music worlds Latitude is the only place that brings together the best in music, literature, comedy, poetry, film, theatre, cabaret, art, dance, opera and fashion for one spectacular weekend. Bigger and better for 2011.
Latitude has an increased arena size but with no capacity increase, allowing festival goers to roam the site freely while keeping its intimate and cosy feel; and there is also a second bridge across the lake from which crowds can enjoy spectacular light and visual displays and ad hoc performances. With an unrivalled programme of music and arts scheduled all weekend long, Latitude will continue to inspire and innovate, enlighten and engage with another incredible event promised for 2011.
I am extremely proud of what has been achieved over the past five glorious years of Latitude. They've been listening to the loyal fans and this year, for this sixth edition, they are making some changes to the site which will further enhance everyone’s enjoyment of their favourite festival weekend.
Latitude truly is 'more than just a music festival’ and this year’s programme across the full spectrum of arts and music is utterly exceptional. They look forward to welcoming you to explore, discover and enjoy all that it has to offer.

Music Arenas
Spread over four bespoke arenas dedicated to music, Latitude offers an incredible array of musical talent, hand-picked and carefully selected to create the perfect soundtrack to the perfect weekend.
Whether it’s the hottest new band or the once in a life-time chance to see a legend perform; if it’s rock or pop, folk or blues, electro or dance, Latitude’s music arenas have it all. Over the past five years, Latitude has seen jaw-dropping performances from Sigur Ros, Florence and the Machine, The xx, Arcade Fire, Mars Volta, Crystal Castles, Villagers, Blondie, Magazine, Grace Jones and Thom Yorke to name just a few and this year’s line-up looks set to offer yet more incredible musical treats.
Arts Arenas
Unlike any other festival, the whole spectrum of the arts is brought together in one place to offer audiences a unique opportunity to delve deep into the weird and wonderful world of theatre, cabaret, comedy, literature, poetry, dance and film.
Showcasing an illustrious line-up of directors, playwriters, actors, authors, performers, choreographers, poets, comics, DJs and visual artists found in beautifully bespoke arenas around the site, Latitude’s Arts Arena will keep you entertained, enthralled and excited all weekend.
Film and Music Arena
One of the most diverse and cutting edge elements to Latitude’s repertoire, the Film & Music Arena offers audiences mesmerising displays, performances and viewings of fantastic cinema and music. Sonically and visually rich, the worlds of alternative film and music collide with a full programme of award winning screenings, documentaries, shorts, Q&A discussions and musical treats.
Literary Arena
Latitude celebrates the written word in all its glorious facets with its very own renowned library of literary excellence. Bringing together today’s most illustrious wordsmiths; the Literary Arena is a hub of storytelling, book discussions, lively debates and in-depth interviews.
Top authors and special guests bring books to life and take audiences on fun-filled journeys to the far reaches of their imaginations.
The arena has become increasingly popular over the years, and to meet these demands the Literary Arena has expanded its capacity so more people can enjoy these wild and wonderful readings with a difference.
Poetry Arena
Satirical slams, poetic prose and comic verse are all celebrated at Latitude’s famous Poetry Arena. Found on the bank of the lake and larger than ever, a welcoming blanket of bean bags and cushions makes this an inviting place to while away the day; entertained by a wealth of leading poets (including past and present poet laureates) spoken word artists, comics, rappers and raconteurs alike.
Cabaret Arena
A veritable feast of vaudeville fun and mischief, Latitude’s Cabaret Arena is a carnival of top comedy and theatre. With a heady mix of sketch shows, freak, burlesque and drag acts alongside puppetry, illusionists and hearty singalongs, the Cabaret Arena encourages you to ditch your woes at the door and be seduced by the frivolities inside for a not-so-innocent ol’fashioned knees up.
Literary Salon
A hub of life-enhancing interactive workshops, discussions, wide-ranging debates and mind expanding sessions, the Literary Salon is the noisy little sister of the Literary Arena that encourages you to get involved. Discover and learn new skills, air opinions and explore your innermost feelings in this progressive school of thought.
The Waterfront Stage
Floating on the surface of Latitude’s central lake is the stunning Waterfront Stage. A beautiful platform on which audiences can enjoy visual displays of delightful dance, one-off musical performances and incredible work by some of the countries most highly regarded choreographers, with Latitude’s luscious landscape providing the perfect backdrop.
The Faraway Forest
Unveiled for the first time last year, Latitude’s fairytale Faraway Forest is a secret haven of dark desires, mysterious mayhem and salacious sin-filled pleasure. This clearing under the woodland canopy hosted the Royal Opera House, a decadent Bacchanalian masked ball, workshops and fascinating 79 theatre and music performances. Come along and lose yourself in the depths of The Faraway Forest.
Pandora's Playground
A fantasyland of innocent pleasures and unbridled fun lies deep within the festival’s magical woods. A quirky corner of the Latitude site, here, anything goes. Side shows, games, interactive art, dance troupes, workshops and 81 cutting edge theatre will keep you entertained all weekend long.
Release your inner child and come play around at Latitude’s Pandora’s Playground.
In The Woods
Exploring the many pathways snaking through the enchanting woodland little pockets of treats and surprises are just waiting to be discovered.
By day or by night, The Woods are an intriguing and beguiling place to spend your time.
Art adorns the trees, and exhibitions, ad hoc performance and installations can be found at every turn.
The small but perfectly formed stage in a clearing will host a diverse range of performances as well as DJs pumping out the tunes into the early hours of the morning.
The perfect place to party the night away.
Walk On The Wild Side
Latitude are teaming up with Greenpeace to help you discover your wild side with a new activity zone based around Camp Greenpeace in the lakeside woods.
Leave the city behind and test your nerve by climbing high into the Latitude tree tops and across rope and cable walks, wrestle with scramble nets, build dens and learn a range of bush crafts and survival skills with their team of woodsmen, riggers and experts. Prepare to get your hands dirty..it's a jungle out there!

There's a dizzying range of activities and entertainment including art and craft workshops, theatre and puppet shows, local author events, a mini-monsters roadshow and missions to complete with
the guerilla geographers! There are activities for budding chefs, wildlife explorers and wannabe west-end performers plus older kids should prepare for the new bushcraft challenges. From babies to teenagers, they guarantee the Children's Arena will wear out the toughest of infants.
