Infinity Foods Kitchen Re-Opens to Rave Reviews

When I discovered one of my favourite cafés in Brighton had undergone a transformation, I was keen to get back and discover what changes had been made, and to see if or how the menu had changed.

So when I received an invitation to review the Infinity Food Kitchen on 50 Gardener Street, North Laine, I didn't need much persuasion.Infinity Foods Kitchen Mezze The menu has seen some day to day changes in the arrangements of sittings - and having introduced a full English breakfast, with clear times for serving (until noon), it now leaves the chefs free to spend their afternoons getting creative in the kitchen, planning the next day's dishes.

On hand, and ready throughout the day is the fabulous Mezze which I must say is a personal favourite and, even though breakfast was still on offer when I arrived, I resorted to type and ordered 'the usual'. Except my usual had also undergone a make-over and arrived beautifully laid out on a 'silver' platter.

This is not special treatment on my account; the Mezze is delivered the same way to all who order. I was very surprised to discover that the loaded platter was a single portion and not 'made to share' - although this is also available. I could easily have made two meals out of mine, so it is safe to say that portion size is not mean!

As you can see, and starting from the salad on the right and going clockwise, my Mezze included: -

  • Vegan coleslaw with: red and white cabbage, kohlrabi, red onion, carrot and vegan mayonnaise
  • Quinoa salad with pomegranate, pine nuts, fennel, carrots and mint
  • Rice salad with: butternut squash, carrots, peppers, rocket and a vegan pesto
  • A beetroot and mint dip
  • A chunky Houmous dip
  • An olive tapenade dip
  • Chilli nuts (sweetened with agave)
  • Marinated feta (this is replaced with more olives and dolmades if you're a vegan)
  • Marinated green and black olives
  • Infinity dolmades

In the center: - Falafels and freshly made rice and tapioca flour bread (GF) from the bakery (non-gluten free option is a sesame seed pitta bread, also from their bakery).

The salads are amazing, the flavours are clean and fresh and even retain their identity when heavily mixed in the Mezze. The Beetroot & Mint Dip was by far probably the best 'anything with mint' I have tasted, as mint is not high on my list of foods to try. Infinity Foods logoSomehow Infinity Foods Kitchen has managed this marriage without any discord.

The Falafels are divine, and I could happily have bought a pocketful to snack on while wandering North Laine if I hadn't been so full after this mid-morning feast.

A few years ago, as it started to trend, I was sent samples of Quinoa to try but wasn't taken. But made the Infinity Foods way, it is a no-brainer on choice.

If, like me, you get stuck when it comes time to choose from a menu because you want to taste a little of everything and not just settle for a few flavours on your plate, then this Mezze is the answer to any indecision. It brings together a smokey sweetness in the Chilli Nuts that sits comfortably alongside the Olive Tapenade. And even a meat eater would be hard pressed to feel they had missed out on flavour with this entire spread.

The gluten-free tapioca flour bread was the icing on the cake (well nearly - I did take out some Chocolate Cheesecake but will get to that in a bit). Vegan & gluten-free chocolate cheesecakeThe gluten-free bread was like no other and I still fail to see why so many big brands with so much capital to invest cannot create a gluten-free bread that deserves its title, when in comparison this much smaller scale company delivers a soft and edible bread that tastes better than the 'real deal'.

What more can I say, bar next time you are in Brighton head down Gardner Street and see if you can find a table at Infinity Foods Kitchen, because of a lunchtime and weekend you will find scores of other diners already heading that way.

Having been revamped and redesigned, the Infinity Foods Kitchen has re-opened to a rapture of rave reviews.

Infinity Foods Kitchen offers a wide range of delicious, freshly cooked, organic and vegetarian dishes. Their menu is inspired by seasonal variety and infused with a diversity of cultural and culinary tradition - available to eat in or take away. The café is light, airy and open plan with ample seating on two levels. And in the summer the frontage can be opened out into the street where there is extra outside seating.

With gluten-free options on the menu, it offers a haven for free-from eaters where flavour is still on the menu, even where the gluten is not. The new quick select Bento boxes make lunch on the go a soother move, while the upstairs seating lends itself to lazy afternoons watching the world walk by, while you enjoy a decaf soya latte, or drink of choice, and sample a slice of the delicious (yes we are back on the cheesecake now) vegan and gluten-free Chocolate Cheesecake on offer.

I actually still couldn't eat after my brunch so popped back for a slice to take away. Had I an inkling of how good it tasted before I left I would have certainly bought another slice or even slices. Or the whole cake! A must-have on my list for the next time I am Brighton way - unless i can get them to deliver me a whole cake!
