The Five Year Old Me Was Born To Be
Chloe Madeley, Danielle Lineker, Darren Gough, Neil Fox and Zoe Salmon all lend support to this exciting Summer campaign.
Celebrities have joined Save the Children to support their summer fancy dress fundraiser - 'The five year old me was born to be'.
Save the Children works to ensure children all over the world have the chance to shine and fulfil their potential.
This summer the charity is organising a series of fundraising activities and on 19th August 2011 is asking the public to unleash their inner five-year old and turn up to work dressed as their childhood ambition (be it pop star, racing driver, doctor or princess).
The fancy dress fundraiser will take place in the run up to the finale of Born to Shine, the new prime-time series on ITV1 which has been created in collaboration with Save the Children.
The show will culminate in a massive fundraising live final on Sunday 21st August.
Everyone who takes part in 'The five year old me was born to be' will donate £1 to relive their fantasy job for the day (or £2 not to) and Save the Children is rallying offices up and down the country to get involved.
Supported by a wealth of well-known faces - including international cricketing legend and 'Strictly Come Dancing' champion Darren Gough, DJ and national treasure Neil Fox and model Danielle Lineker - this day, along with other Born to Shine fundraising challenges, will raise vital funds for Save the Children's No Child Born to Die campaign.
No Child Born to Die aims to stop the needless deaths of more than eight million children under five every year.
All the money raised via 'The five year old me was born to be' will help ensure that children all over the world get their chance to shine, grow up and fulfil their potential.
To kick-start the campaign, Goughie, Foxy and Danielle, joined by TV personality Chloe Madeley, actress Tracy-Ann Oberman and former Blue Peter presenter Zoe Salmon, have all been photographed as what they wanted to be: a fighter pilot, an astronaut, a vet, a painter and decorator, a Charlie's Angel and a ballerina respectively.
Danielle Lineker explains why she was super keen to get involved:
Remember when you were five and the only thing you wanted to be was Batman, policeman or – for me – a vet?
This August I have the opportunity to live my ultimate childhood dream whilst raising vital funds for Save the Children.
Darren Gough agrees because he couldn't wait to channel his 'inner Maverick', whilst Neil Fox was more than happy to realise his childhood fantasy and 'do my bit as an astronaut. You know what they say, one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. It's just going to be a challenge getting my headphones on!'
Some of the UK's biggest employers including First Group and Mothercare have already pledged their involvement.
To further embrace the fun of the day the public are encouraged to send in photos and messages via Twitter (@savechildrenuk; #borntoshine) and Facebook.
Born to Shine on ITV1 is a six-part series, which started on Sunday 17th July 2011. It sees some of the UK's most talented youngsters mentor celebrities to learn a new skill, which they must then perform live.
The series, hosted by Natasha Kaplinsky with judges Denise Van Outen and Jason Gardiner, will feature stars such as Jenni Bond, Ruth Langsford, Jason Manford, Nick Moran and Gareth Thomas all challenged to master a new skill.
Other Born to Shine initiatives announced this month include the sale of limited edition Born to Shine Glow Bands at Save the Children and Morrisons stores nationwide; and a series of Born to Shine roadshows at Morrisons stores up-and-down the country.
