Treat your Dad - and the whole family - to a day out that's a little bit special this year. The Wildlife Aid Foundation Open Day coincides with Father's Day on 19th June 2011 and could be the perfect gift for everyone.
Father's Day is held on the third Sunday of June in the United Kingdom and it is a day to honour fathers and father figures. Many people make a special effort to visit their fathers or to send them a card or gifts.
If you are stuck for what to do then we think this year a trip out into the Surrey countryside is just what the doctor ordered.
The Wildlife Aid Foundation
The Wildlife Aid Foundation was formed 30 years ago by environmental broadcaster and campaigner Simon Cowell MBE to rescue, care for and rehabilitate sick, injured and orphaned British wild animals. 
No animal is ever turned away and all the animals that come into the charity’s care are treated and rehabilitated completely free of charge.
What began as a small operation that rescued a few hundred animals annually has now developed into one of the UK’s largest wildlife charities, dealing with more than 20,000 wildlife incidents every year.
Nowadays the charity’s growth is reflected by the fact that it is the focus of the popular, long-running TV series Wildlife SOS, broadcast internationally on Discovery Channel 'Animal Planet'.

Wildlife Aid Foundation Open Day – June 19th 2011
Once a year, the Wildlife Aid Foundation throws a huge fundraising day, and opens its doors for the public to come inside.
This is the charity’s way of saying thank you to everyone who has supported them over the past year, and it allows them to see first-hand the work that they do in looking after Britain’s native wildlife.
As the Wildlife Aid Foundation is not open to the public during the rest of the year, this is a unique opportunity to see behind the scenes of Surrey's largest wildlife hospital.
Visitors have the chance to see some of the bird and mammal patients in the charity’s care, and have the option of a tour around our main hospital until and ICU.
All this is against a backdrop of music, dancing and other attractions including a tombola, a bouncy castle, face-painting, and even a human fruit machine which has to be seen to be believed.
There are plenty of stalls selling plants, books, crafts, cakes and more. Fingers are crossed for a hot day so that visitors can enjoy the BBQ and Bar (it is Father’s Day after all), but this is England and even if it rains the show will go on!
Meet the stars of TV’s Wildlife SOS
Simon Cowell MBE, star of TV’s Wildlife SOS and director of the Wildlife Aid Foundation, on which the show is based, will be there all day.
He is available for photographs and is always up for a silly challenge to raise a bit of extra money, so think of something ridiculous you'd like him to do, let the Wildlife Aid team know and they will try to make it happen!
Visitors can meet Goff, a regular star of many Wildlife SOS episodes that have aired over the years. Malcolm hasn't been a volunteer at the charity for a good few years now, but as so many people remember him from TV, 
Wildlife Aid are trying to convince him to pay them a visit this year.
Although she is seen on a number of Wildlife SOS episodes, Sara now works at another wildlife centre. Visitors will however be able to meet the charity’s new Vet Nurse and Hospital Manager Lucy, who will be appearing in the new series of Wildlife SOS next year.

Parking is in the main field next to the hospital and entrance is £10 per car or £3 per person on foot.
There are no buses that pass the centre, but Leatherhead train station is just a 15 minute walk away.
No dogs allowed (except guide dogs).
