Daybreak Weather Presenter Gives It Some Welly

Daybreak weather presenter Kirsty McCabe is forecasting a day of welly-wearing in the name of charity on Friday 16 September.

The new mum, who recently returned to our screens on ITV’s breakfast show, is supporting children's charity Action Medical Research and its Wear your Wellies event.

Whether it's funky festival boots, green gardening ones or trusty winter walkers, it's Wellies Kirstyreally easy to take part in Wear your Wellies day.

To run a Wear your Wellies day at your workplace, college or school all you need to do is sign up now and then ask everyone to wear their favourite boots on Friday 16 September and collect a donation of £2 from each welly wearer.

The sun may well be shining on Friday 16 September but I’m hoping to see people across the nation leaving their smart shoes at home and wearing their wellies to have a bit of fun and help Action Medical Research raise vital funds.

The money raised will help fund vital medical research to help sick babies and children, offering hope to many thousands of families across the UK. As a new mum myself, I appreciate just how important this work is.

Research currently being supported by Action Medical Research includes work around pregnancy complications and premature birth, cerebral palsy, meningitis and epilepsy, as well as some very rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.

Wear your Wellies day is 16th September 2011

Do a 'welly' good thing and Wear your Wellies to work, college or school for charity.

Wear your Wellies on Friday 16 September 2011 and raise money for leading children's charity Action Medial Research.

Top TV presenter Davina McCall is supporting Wear your Wellies and wants Wellies Davinathe whole nation to wear their wellies to work, college or school.

I really support the work that Action Medical Research does, funding research into diseases that affect babies and children. I feel like I have been involved with the charity all my life as my grandparents supported them. I even took part in a sponsored walk for the charity when I was only five.

Taking part in Wear your Wellies is simple; people pay £2 to wear their wellies to work, college or school on 16 September - that's it.

For those who want to add more fun and daring into their Wear your Wellies day, how about organising a welly wanging contest to see who can throw their wellies the furthest?

A three-legged welly race or even challenging colleagues to fill their wellies with the most disgusting substance and wear them.

From organising a welly fashion show or even a 'decorate your welly competition', there are many ways in which you can organise additional activities to make 'Wear your Wellies' a success and raise as much money as possible for Action Medical Research.

Where ever you are on 16 September we strongly encourage you to get involved and wear your wellies. Paddington Bear, Action Medical Research’s mascot, is known for his shiny red boots and is the inspiration behind Wear your Wellies day. Action Medical Research has made tremendous medical breakthroughs in the past sixty years, and this has been funded purely by our fundraising activities. We receive no funding from the government, so take up the challenge and wear your wellies"
