Countdown to Cornbury 2011
Britain's most enchanting festival is now taking shape in the heart of rural Oxfordshire, in the Great Tew Park ready for the 1st - 3rd July 2011.
It's nearly here... there's a definite vibration rumbling through the ground... and somewhere not too distant, a steady stream of trucks is rolling into beautiful Great Tew Park to start building the loveliest intimate festival in the country.
A festival so civilised you don't even have to put up your own tent if you don't want to. A festival where washing oneself or eating food other than a Twix or a GrottBurger from the back of a filthy van are all considered perfectly reasonable activities and not examples of bourgeois decadence.
So - what a relief, and how nice to come to Cornbury and meet lovely people.
Oh, and of course there's three days of absolutely sensational music. An amazing cross-section of the best of the past forty years is represented, including Ray Davies of The Kinks, The Straits, (no longer 'dire' since MK doesn't play with them anymore) and the insane three chord institution called Status Quo.
Where else can you hear the legendary folk heroine Buffy Sainte Marie?, the unique vocal tones of Cyndi Lauper having fun and Mick Hucknall recreating Rod's rasp on Stay with Me? plus the poptastic Eliza Doolittle and X-Factor discovery Olly Murs?
Only at Cornbury.
Younger visitors will be entertained by everything from Bhangra Dance & Tatty Bumpkin Yoga to the regular Graffiti Wall Street Show. The Riverside & Caffe Nero Stages will showcase the local Oxfordshire scene along with tomorrow’s top talent and the legends that are Stackridge..
And look! AttenSHUN! James Blunt is coming, (minus his tank, we hope), headlining Friday evening, while Saturday features Sophie Ellis Bextor, Irish superstar Imelda May and Eighties’ icons Deacon Blue.
This is Cornbury's 8th year but only its first at this magnificent new location.
Nestling in the rolling hills of the Cotswold countryside, the Great Tew Estate is one of Oxfordshire’s most beautiful and ancient sites.
I'm thrilled to welcome our hugely talented artists, as well as the all-new Comedy Tent, to Cornbury. Having seen The Straits perform at the Royal Albert Hall last month, I can safely say that the Cornbury crowd on the Sunday night (July 3rd ) can expect a truly unforgettable and emotional experience...it’s going to be an exceptional debut for us at Great Tew.
Festival Director, Hugh Phillimore
The Cornbury Festival is one of the UK’s ‘cleanest, cosiest’ boutique festivals. It’s family-orientated, with something for everyone. Quintessentially English, it's marked by its good natured, inclusive and slightly eccentric atmosphere, with echoes of an old country village wedding or a funky farmer's market selling fresh rock ‘n’ roll and great music galore. Go and see, enjoy, relax... and experience it for yourself.
