All Go at GuilFest
With the wettest weather recorded in recent years and festivals all over the UK being cancelled, on Friday 13th we held our breath for a similar announcement from the organisers at GuilFest.
But it wasn't to be... and this unlucky day proved very lucky for thousands of revellers, who donned sunglasses and rain hats for the unpredictable weather that threatened to put an end to GuilFest 2012.
After a slightly delayed start, while the ground was rolled to make it as safe and secure as possible for the ensuing heavy footfall, the gates finally opened at 11.45pm and the many revellers that had waited patiently in the mix of sunshine and showers were processed in to Stoke Park, to enjoy Guilfest's first day.
As ever we wanted to make sure that everyone got to try the delicious food on offer so we scouted out the free-from options as soon as possible, discovering the Little Big Kitchen (www.lbkitchen.co.uk), with their homemade beef and red wine stew that was completely gluten and dairy free.
Musically, our attention was captured early by Jay James Picton (www.jayjamespicton.com), with his fabulously executed set that had the scattered crowd closing in to appreciate his sultry tones and quick witted humour.
Another great find came in the form of the Ramonas (www.ramonas.co.uk), an all girl tribute band that had the VLR stage literally bouncing with their fantastic energy and spot-on covers of some great Ramones classics. The crowd certainly approved and the set came to a close way before enthusiasm failed.
On the Good Time Guide stage we found the Charley Farley Sunday Four (www.cfs4.com), who entertained us with many classic original songs (that had been stolen from their mother over the last 100 years and other artists have dared to cover!) If you are going down to GuilFest 2012 be sure to check the programme and catch this band, as they are due to play another few slots over the weekend.
Despite the threatening clouds, the weather managed to stay dry for most of the day, with even a little sunshine smiling through and on the main stage we were serenaded by The Straits, who performed a wonderful Dire Straits compilation.
Just after 9pm the heavens opened bringing the umbrellas and raincoats out in waves but this did little to dampen the crowds rising spirits as Jools Holland and his full Rhythm and Blues Orchestra drew the first day to a close.
