Hydros - The Filtering Water Bottle That Cares

Hydros - The Filtering Water Bottle That Cares

Did you know that bottled water is sold for up to 500 times the price of tap water - and whilst 1 in 7 people lack access to clean water around the world, Britain consumes more than 2 billion gallons of bottled water every year?

Since staying hydrated is a basic human need that we all deserve, Hydros have created the Hydros Filtering Water Bottle, for people on the go who want their tap water to be a little more filtered.

As well as allowing you to have your tap water filtered straight into the bottle, Hydros is also a movement to fight the Global water crisis by bringing clean, safe water to those who need it the most.

But what's in it for you? We took a closer look at the Hydros Water Bottle to see how well it works...

On the plus side this bottle utilizes lightweight, durable Tritan plastic, which is completely free from BPA (bisphenol A) and phthalates. These are chemicals that have been used in the production of plastics and have been found to affect the hormones in humans and can lead to neurological issues, obesity and pose severe health risks to children, especially babies.Hydros

The fact that the Hydros Water Bottle has been manufactured without these harmful additives makes it one of the safest on the market.

The replaceable filters, each lasting up to 3 months (or 150 uses) are embedded with a natural anti-microbial to stop the build-up of nasty bacteria.

The Hydros is dishwasher friendly and can be used again and again, which negates the need to add to the rising pile of plastic bottles that cannot be recycled and end up in landfill, year on year.

The bottle is packaged in 100% recyclable paper, printed with vegetable-based inks and contains all the information you need to get you started. It certainly altered the taste of our water but for us it still has that generic 'tap water' taste.

But for anyone who is concious of the effects that plastic has on the environment, is looking for an alternative to buying bottled mineral water, or who simply wants their tap water with reduced chlorine, chloramine and particulates removed, then this is a good choice for you.

The design is sleek but if you are using the bottle out and about then be sure to dry your hands before opening the lid to drink. Any moisture on the lid-twist prevents it from being gripped and you are left struggling to open the top.

A more efficient design would allow for a larger grip area to open the bottle top and could easily replace the side-fill port altogether, as we found this was not the easiest way to refill the bottle.

Using the open lid we were better able to judge the filtering speed and level of water as it went into the bottle, to prevent over filling it each time. Hydros Logo

'On the go' for us would be at work in the office because, unless you are careful to make sure you close it really tightly, it does seem prone to leeks if not kept in an upright position.

From an 'Eco' point of view this bottle gets the thumbs up for its contribution to finding an alternative to the mountain of plastic water bottles that we discard daily, but from a usability viewpoint it could benefit from a few more ideas, tweaks or a re-design.
