Mixing It Up in Minutes with the Magic Bullet

Mixing It Up in Minutes with the Magic Bullet

Can you make life a little easier in the kitchen with the help of a Magic Bullet? We put one to the test to see how much time we could save in preparation and food cooking.

On the whole, when it comes to food preparation, the magic bullet is like a mini blender, with various pieces to help you chop, grind, blend and purée. Magic BulletUnfortunately, food does have to be fairly easy to cut through, and, as we found out, ice is a no-no. You are not going to achieve the level of smoothness on some produce that you may on a more powerful machine but if you have a Magic Bullet to hand, it will certainly save you some time in the kitchen, while taking up no more room than the average coffee cup.

Cleaning couldn't be simpler, and all the various components detach and come apart to the simplest level, meaning cleaning is easy - whether you are popping it in the dishwasher or washing it by hand.

You certainly get your moneys worth with everything that comes in the box but we still have a few more hours to put in before we can tell how well the Magic Bullet stands up to wear and tear.

The addition of four party cups means you are not washing up the same cup many times over just to make a few friends some drinks. And this is the element of the Magic Bullet we think is the best for promoting its use.

If you have a party planned or people coming over, especially teenagers (who will love this for making mocktails and cocktails) then stock up on some fresh and frozen fruits, juices and (for those over 18) spirits and wine and you can make a great selection of party drinks in quick succession.

Serve in glasses and use each party cup for a designated cocktail and you will cut down on the need to wash in-between each mix.

For simple dips, sauces and blends the Magic Bullet will do the job as well as many other blenders on offer because where as the Nutribullet leaves ingredients smooth and blended, the Magic Bullet offers the option to coarse chop, grate and rough mix your ingredients.

As Nutribullet devotees we were intrigued to see how well the Magic Bullet worked in comparison. The Nutribullet is renowned for its ability to make some of the best smoothies ever, so we started our Magic Bullet testing with ice cream smoothies.

Ice in a blender can be hit and miss, with many blenders today still having trouble when it comes to blending and chopping frozen foods.Magic Bullet Smoothie

The Nutribullet has always had no problem cutting through nearly everything we pop into the cup. However when we made an ice cream smoothie, using ice cubes, ice cream and milk, the Magic Bullet could not break through the frozen ice and we had to resort to transferring our ingredients back to the Nutribullet to see if it could blend the smoothie instead.

The Magic Bullet managed to redeem itself with frozen fruits, but in comparison to the Nutribullet, it still struggled a little.

After smoothies we moved on to chopping onions and after peeling and quartering a whole onion, we pulsed it in the Magic Bullet until it was chopped. If we had pulsed for longer we would have been over chopping the onion, but alas on performance the Magic Bullet had a tough time evenly chopping the onion and left a few large chunks that needed more attention.

We decided to plough on and instead of a pulse, we locked the cup on to the magic Bullet to see what a good 'whirl' would achieve - and we were pleasantly surprised to find ourselves with an onion purée after about ten seconds. This would be a great addition to sauces that needed onion but not chopped or chunks.

Would we buy one? If we hadn't already been spoiled with the Nutribullet then we would probably give this a go. As Nutribullet devotees, we can honestly say that, as much as the Magic Bullet is fun to use and we can see it being used for cooking days and baking sessions, the Nutribullet will remain in the top spot for us and be in constant use on a daily basis.
