A Little Light Supper of Crackers and Salmon from Crosta & Mollica and Grants Smokehouse
When we were asked to review some Grants Smokehouse Scottish Salmon, we paired it with a packet of Crosta & Mollica Bolli, crisp baked Italian crackers. With a full glass of Malbec, the combination was a good choice as a light supper in the sun, over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Grants Traditional Smoked Scottish Salmon is traditionally cured and lightly smoked over oak wood chips for a truly unique taste. The superior quality is ensured by the time and care in which only the very finest fresh Salmon is selected and the lovingly cure and smoking process. Employing time-honoured smoking methods, perfected through generations, provides a consistently succulent texture and delicate flavour. Each side is dry cured with natural sea salt and brown sugar then deeply smoked over oak wood chips. (RRP £8 - 300g)
"If you have never ventured further than the smoked salmon on the counter at your local supermarket then you will find the difference with Grants plainly obvious. A clean flavour from the salmon yet without a heavy smoke, making it palatable for those less fond of the heaviness that can come with an over-smoke. In comparison to salmon from the House of Sverre, the Grants is a little too oily in after-taste so for us personally comes in mid-range. A good salmon for the money with the convenience of availability."
Crosta & Mollica have introduced a brand new product to its Altogether Italian bread snacking range with the launch of Bolli - crisp baked Italian crackers with black pepper. Made to a traditional recipe with wheat flour, potato and virgin olive oil, Bolli which means 'stamps' in Italian, was given to the product by the bakers in Northern Italy because of their distinctive shape. Serve as a sharing appetizer or with a dip. (RRP: £1.69)
"Since we had a bag of Bolli to hand, we paired these 'stamps' with the salmon to create a light supper and washed it down with a nice Malbec. Perhaps not the perfect choice for fish but with the oiliness of the salmon and the dry, pepper edge of the Bolli, a good red wine certainly had our name on it. On their own the Bolli do not stand out as remarkable from any other cracker on the high street but fair well enough with the salmon and have a good hint of pepper to the after-taste."
You can find Crosta & Mollica in your local Waitrose and Grants Smoked Scottish Salmon in Tesco.
