Bang on Bangers to Make Bonfire Night Sizzle for British Sausage Week
No firework party would be complete without our favourite bangers - and for anyone craving a proper sausage HECK has a whole host of delicious examples to get Bonfire Night off to a sizzling start.
This year Guy Fawkes Night coincides with British Sausage Week which runs from the 3rd - 9th November - so even more reason to celebrate the great British banger and treat taste buds to the best that money that buy.
Mighty, meaty and with no hidden ingredients, HECK sausages are ta great choice for eating on a cold night around the bonfire.
Started just over a year ago by sibling trio Jamie, Roddy and Ellie Keeble, the three young entrepreneurs, who recently appeared on the BBC 2's The Fixer, are following in their parents' farming turned food producer footsteps. Andrew and Debbie Keeble set up their first sausage business more than 15 years ago and are backing their children in the family's second sausage venture.
Through their combination of delicious recipes, homemade seasoning, high welfare meat and 'what the heck' attitude, the North Yorkshire-based young Keebles are aiming to get more people back into eating sausages following the meat industry's image-damaging horse meat scandal and they are already supplying Tesco, Waitrose, Asda, Morrisons and Booths with their award-winning, farmers' market recipes.
With around three billion bangers eaten in the UK each year, their recipe for a great sausage couldn't be simpler. Coarsely ground lean British pork shoulder from farmers the Keebles know well, natural casings, herbs, spices and a few other favourite ingredients when the need calls. Their minimum 85% meat content makes them naturally higher in protein and lower in fat, and they're all gluten-free too.
HECK's first three recipes to appear on supermarket shelves were The Family Favourite, 97% Pork and Plump Pork & Apple but the family is also becoming known for its fresh ideas for discerning sausage fans who want a little bit more banger for their buck.
This year's star of the sausage show is the new HECK Chicken Italia made with British chicken breast and thigh. Deliciously tasty and inspired by the Mediterranean, they're also naturally lower in fat and are getting rave reviews from foodies, families and slimming groups including Weightwatchers and Slimming World.
Flavour-packed Chorizo-style is packing a punch with sausage lovers who like it spicy and will soon be made with the famous Pimentón de la Vera which the family are sourcing directly from fair trade Spanish producers rather than the middle man.
Fair & Square are square, skinless pork patties perfect for the BBQ or sandwiched between two slices of bread for bonfire night butties.
HECK sausages cook beautifully whatever way you choose, losing very little fat or water and holding their own whether they are on the BBQ, atop a pile of mash, filling the hole in your toad or casseroled in a deliciously warming gravy. Find them in most major supermarkets, priced £2.99 for 340g - 400g.
For us the BBQ will be out a little early and we will be throwing our HECK on the heat for Halloween.
