Appleby Creamery is a traditional small artisan producer creating a range of locally inspired cheeses from time honoured Cumbrian recipes.

We were excited to taste-test a selection from the Appleby Creamery range - and would certainly recommend them to cheese lovers everywhere.

With an exceptional range boasting an abundance of awards and accolades, each cheese is distinctive by nature and perfected in small batches with time honoured skills in their creation and natural maturing.

The passion and consideration in producing handmade cheeses from locally gathered Cumbrian milk ensures quality is never compromised and the distinction of which is unique in flavour.

Appleby Creamery - Eden Valley Organic Brie

White mould ripened cheese made with pasteurised cow's milk. Its flavour fills the mouth with intensity and the luxurious creamy texture rounds off a sumptuous taste experience.Appleby Creamery Brie

"We taste-tested all the cheeses chilled, at room temperature and the bries were also wrapped in foil and heated in the oven. The flavours worked best for us at room temperature and this Organic Brie was amazing - subtle yet full, without the associated after-taste that often follows a strong brie. "

"If you are not sure about trying brie for the first time then we would certainly recommend this for your introduction - not because it has any less of a brie flavour but because it has such a clean, fresh taste. 10/10 from us for this one."

Appleby Creamery - Eden Smokie

The smoked version of the brie. Smoked in-house in the traditional manner using a subtle mix of apple and oak woods. The flavour is a perfect balance with a rustic refinement.Appleby Creamery Smoked Brie

"The Eden Smokie has a full-on smokey flavour when chilled that is a little bit overwhelming, so we would only recommend this for those who love a deep smoked cheese. At room temperature the underlying cheese flavour noses through to present a great combination and balance."

For a more subtle flavour yet stronger aroma simply pop it into the oven for a few minutes wrapped in foil to melt through and you will have a very palatable creamy cheese with a hint of smokey undertones. For our smoked lovers this was the obvious winner but for those who are not so keen we would opt for the unsmoked brie."

A semi-hard cheese made from pasteurised goats milk from the north of the Lake District. Pure white in colour; the rich creamy texture gives way to fresh, delicate flavours.Appleby Creamery Hootenanny

"If you have to avoid lactose or dairy products in your diet you will be delighted to know that the Appleby Creamery Hootenanny is made from goat's milk. And if you have never tried goat's milk then this is another ideal introduction to a new flavour."

"A lovely rich creamy texture with a tangy after-taste, synonymous to goat's cheese, yet cleaner and less sharp than many we have tried. For a very light, white cheese the depth of taste is a real surprise. From the fridge it cuts well into slices for a semi-hard cheese and at room temperature the flavour steps out a little further. Certainly one for our 'dairy-free' team members."
