Proper Natural Pet Food

Proper Natural Pet Food

As a nation we love our pets and we are as concerned with their diets and what goes into their food as our own.

At Lily’s Kitchen their natural pet food is made with real meat, organic grains, organic vegetables, organic fruit and herbs...

Their ingredients are sourced direct from organic farmers, growers and co-operatives. They fill their tins and trays with raw ingredients, seal and then cook slowly.Lilys

This keeps the goodness of the food locked in so your pet gets the full benefit of top quality proteins, anti-oxidants, amino acids, beneficial oils, essential trace elements and herbs. Using only whole ingredients, not by-products, in the food creates perfectly balanced recipes which are highly digestible and nutritious.

What separates Lily's from the rest?

Lily’s Kitchen has been named “Best Pet Food Company in the UK 2009,2010 and 2011” by the Ethical good Shopping Guide- putting themselves through a rigorous certification process - three times.

Firstly with the Organic certifiers - OF&G (Organic Farmers and Growers), secondly with BAHNM (British Association of Holistic Nutrition and Medicine) and thirdly with the Ethical Organization.

Getting approved is a robust and rigorous process and is Lily's way of demonstrating the passion and integrity behind their ingredients and recipes.

They are the ONLY holistic and organic pet food company in the UK.

They are the only pet food company that does not use chicken meal (bones, grizzle, feathers etc.) in their dry food - they use fresh organic chicken.

All of their packaging is recyclable and the inks used are usually water based or vegetable based. They even use teabag off cuts to package the food, which make great bedding for chickens and hamsters.Lilys Bag

They use whole fruits and vegetables, whole grains and whole pieces of meat in their recipes.

They produce their organic home-style foods in small batches and not in 4-million-tins an hour batches like many pet food companies!

The food tastes and smells delicious.

Their ingredients are sourced direct from organic farmers, growers and co-operatives - small producers who are committed to fairness and to supplying the best possible ingredients.

This makes Lily's food bursting with top quality proteins, anti-oxidants, amino acids, beneficial oils, essential trace elements and herbs that nourish and protect your pet.

Lily's food is free from:

  • Artificial additives
  • Fillers or by-products
  • Wheat, soya or corn
  • Chicken Meal

Why Organic?

Health
Dogs and cats love the taste of natural organic food, they benefit from the purity of the ingredients necessary for a long, healthy life.Lilys

Organic ingredients do not contain any chemicals - no growth hormones, no artificial colors, no antibiotics, no chemical fertilizers or pesticides, no GMOs. Every single ingredient must be approved by the organic certifying agency.

The fact that your dog will not be eating all these pesticides will help ensure his or her long term health as well as daily health and vitality - healthy skin, coat and eyes. Lily's food is also highly digestible, meaning your pet will feel very satisfied after a meal.

Safety
Only certified organic ingredients go through the kind of rigorous certification process, which takes pet food safety to a level where you can trust that what you are feeding your pet is safe.

Products that claim to be 'natural' or 'real' or using 'human grade ingredients' have not been subjected to an independent third party assessment conducted by an organic certifying body. All Lily's food has been through TWO certifying bodies - BAHNM (British Assocation of Holistic Nutrition and Medicine) and OF&G (Organic Farmers and Growers).

Cleanliness
The kitchens where Lily's Kitchen Organic natural pet food is made must also be certified organic. This means that everything has a good scrub down before food is prepared and cooked to ensure no non-organic traces of food get into their recipes.

Why Holistic?
Lily's wanted to make sure that all the ingredients in their foods were perfectly balanced, so they got together with BAHNM to create a list of ingredients. They looked at which ones work well together and what proportion of each to put in.

Holistic is about treating the 'whole' - treating the cause not the symptoms. Holistic is defined as relating to the Quality and Appropriateness of ingredients in pet foods:
Quality - Ingredients derived from plant or animal sources?- in their most natural form.
Appropriateness - Ingredients made substantially from raw materials that are biologically appropriate for the species that can be optimally and easily assimilated by the body.

They use Certified Organic Spirulina in our Tray range, because it's organic it's free from pollutants. Spirulina is one of the most amazing food ingredients - it helps protect and support the immune system. It has 200 times more protein than beef and contains more Omega 3s than fish oil. Altogether, it contains over 50 vitamins, amino acids, minerals, fatty acids and phytopigments, including Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B9 (folic acid), Vitamin C, Vitamin D and Vitamin E, Minerals - Calcium, Phosphorus, Magnesium, Iron, Sodium, Potassium, Zinc, Copper, Manganese, Chromium, Selenium.

Kelp and Spirulina are classified as 'sea vegetables' and can help with arthritis and worm infestations. They also help with nutrient absorption in food.

BAHNM - British Association of Holistic Nutrition and Medicine have been involved throughout the production and certify all lily's foods. BAHNM believes that nutrients should be supplied from whole unadulterated raw materials - meats, cereals, vegetables and herbs in order that they can be properly optimized by the body.

It should mirror the evolved requirements of the animal. Foods from other sources such as unsuitable by-products, too much carbohydrate and chemical additives can lead to sub-optimal nutrition and chronic poor health.

This may not happen in the short term but it is a reasonable assumption there are consequences for not adhering to the principles of natural nutrition.
