The Little Greek Pie Company has opened at 22 Cleveland Street, W1 bringing Greek pies to the London lunch market for the very first time.

The Little Greek Pie Company is based on an idea its founder and owner, Angelo Kleftakis, had after buying a pita pie whilst on holiday in the mountainous Epirus region of Northern Greece, where they are a speciality.

It brought back childhood memories of his mother baking the pies and since then he’s been extensively researching and trialling pies to find the perfect recipe - one that combines Greek tradition with modern touches and a variety of fillings.

The pies are handmade each day, to a recipe inspired by Angelo's mother, with a daily changing selection of four fillings available.

The four pies of the day will be displayed on hot plates at the counter and will be chosen by Angelo every morning from an extensive selection of traditional Greek fillings - wild rice, spinach and feta - to some more contemporary fillings - such as salmon, spinach and ricotta.

The shop is located on a site that was once home to Charles Dickens and has a sharp, modern interior - dominated by white tiles and posters of vintage Greek food advertisements.

In addition to the pies, Danesi coffee will also be served, with stools available to sit and enjoy a coffee or slice of pie in-house.

Display shelves will provide the opportunity to purchase Little Greek Pie Company branded groceries, including such delights as extra virgin olive oil from Corinth, honey (also from Corinth) and Pavlidis Greek chocolate and chocolate wafers.

Large open fridges will display fresh salad selections, like 'village' salad (with tomatoes, cucumber and feta), and Greek yoghurt and honey with toppings that include the walnuts and pomegranate seeds advocated by Angelo’s mother - who knew a thing or two about healthy eating!

The shop will also sell more unusual Greek treats including sweet ‘pies’ with mastiha - a gum from the Greek island of Chios, which is said to have an anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial effect.

With prices starting from £3.50 The Greek Pie Company offer a healthy and nutritious slice of the famed Greek diet.

The shop will be open from 10am Monday – Friday.
