Thistle Hotels Launch Fundraising Challenge for Children's Charities

A 1,400 mile fundraising relay from Inverness to London has been announced by Thistle Hotels as part of its Lite@Nite charity campaign.

The mammoth fundraising challenge will see staff from all Thistle hotels throughout the UK running, swimming or cycling to the next property on the route, all in aid of five leading children's charities.

Starting on 17th August 2013 with a swim across Loch Ness, before calling at the Thistle Inverness, the Lite@Nite relay engages Thistle employees to fundraise for Kidscape, Barnardo's, Kids Company, The Children's Society, and the British Triathlon Foundation Trust.

The relay will take 28 days, with the longest leg a huge 136 miles between the Thistle Aberdeen Altens and the Thistle Glasgow. The Lite@Nite relay will end in central London on 14th September after visiting several hotels in the Capital.Thistle Fundraiser

In addition, five mini kid's triathlons will also take place throughout August and September in Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol. The Thistle-funded triathlons will allow children to embrace a fitness challenge, whilst raising money for the beneficiary charities of the Lite@Nite campaign.

Leading the last leg of the challenge is Mike DeNoma, CEO of Thistle parent company, glh. The 1,400 mile relay will culminate on the same finish line as the athletes competing in the World Triathlon Championships in Hyde Park.

As well as Thistle London hotel employees, the final leg of the Lite@Nite relay challenge will see 50 children from the five regional triathlons, including those who have secured the most fundraising, join Mike DeNoma in Hyde Park. The children and their families will also enjoy a break in London including travel, accommodation, dinner and breakfast courtesy of Thistle Hotels in celebration of their achievements.

The Lite@Nite fundraising campaign is important to all at Thistle hotels and we are thrilled to bring together so many of our people in a sporting challenge of nationwide proportions. Teams throughout our network of hotels are motivated, in training and enjoying fundraising for such a fantastic cause - I am proud to be part of this effort. The money raised by both our own Thistle teams, and the children taking part in triathlons, will all be divided equally between our chosen five charitie. Our Lite@Nite initiative is a long term plan to make a small contribution towards supporting the most vulnerable.
