National BBQ Week May 30th to June 5th 2011
With two long Bank Holiday weekends this spring - some great weather and of course the Royal Wedding, it’s no wonder that the UK went BBQ-crazy!
The 15th National BBQ Week will raise the temperature even higher!
With a good run of glorious sunshine for a change over the Easter break, it’s estimated that around 7 million BBQ’s were fired up.
However that figure was significantly exceeded on April 29th the day of the Royal Wedding, as people across the UK went Barbi-crazy celebrating the marriage of William & Kate with a massive 7.5 million BBQ’s the biggest ever daily figure.
Overall the May Day Bank Holiday is estimated to have recorded some 11 million BBQ occasions.
This summer’s 15th National BBQ Week will once again be encouraging people to become 'Better BBQ’ers' and to focus on ‘Gastro-grilling’, following the dynamic ‘Sausage to Swordfish & Burger to Brochette’ evolution but in these tough economic times, with a highly affordable and fun edge.

Since 1997, the annual National BBQ Week has increased the number of BBQ occasions and the size of the market from 9 million Barbi’s, worth £150 million to over 120 million BBQ’s last year, worth over £7 billion.
This summer, with around 20 million BBQ occasions already held, the National BBQ Association is predicting a massive increase in numbers to over 135 million Barbi’s, which will once again firmly entrench the UK as Europe’s leading BBQ nation!
