Moorcroft to Mark their Centenary with an Exciting Exhibition at the Potteries Museum
The historic Staffordshire pottery company, Moorcroft, marks its hundred year anniversary with an exciting exhibition at the Potteries Museum with two unique launch days.
On Friday 8th - Saturday 9th November 2013 Moorcroft will be offering some exciting opportunities for enthusiasts of the applied arts.
Television celebrity and antiques expert, Eric Knowles, will be undertaking free ceramic identifications, alongside craft demonstrations and lectures (Saturday 9th only).
Moorcroft is still very much a living art pottery with each piece of earthenware pottery made entirely by hand from start to finish, creating shapes and surface designs that have astounded the discerning art collector for a century.
Queen Mary honoured Moorcroft in 1928 and bestowed a corporate Royal Appointment on the company and, to this day, Moorcroft designers continue to push the boundaries of surface design to create much sought after pottery.
Rachel Bishop (Senior Designer), has had a Staffordshire University Hall of Residence named after her and is highly regarded in the world of Moorcroft for her outstanding contribution to the art pottery in the 1990's when she introduced a plethora of designs reviving the Arts and Crafts movement in ceramic design.
In turn, these allowed the art pottery to intrigue and excite collecting in Moorcroft again as it moved towards the Millennium.
In 1997, the Moorcroft Design Studio was formed, and the likes of local designer, Emma Bossons FRSA, (made a fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts after the Millennium celebrations for her contribution to Moorcroft design) with her Design Studio colleagues, had her designs displayed in the Mansion House, London, at the time of the Olympic celebrations for Heads of State and visiting dignitaries to admire.
These prestigious pieces are now on display at the Mansion House in perpetuity.
Nicola Slaney and Kerry Goodwin, other Design Studio stars born and bred in The Potteries, have brought fresh blood into Moorcroft, now acknowledged to be a globally-renowned brand.
At the Potteries Museum on the 8th November the world famous art pottery factory will launch their exhibition of 100 pieces of art pottery and historic archives, allowing onlookers to see the changing face of surface design and shape in Moorcroft's illustrious history.
The Potteries Museum has planned an exciting array of interesting activities from the exhibition itself to craft demonstrations and even a book signing with author, Neil Swindells, who has recently unearthed hidden mysteries surrounding the life of William Moorcroft in his book 'Behind The Glaze.'
The Moorcroft Event is entirely free, and members of the public who attend the special launch event at the Potteries Museum will need to contact Moorcroft to book their place on the lecture from Moorcroft's Managing Director, Elise Adams on either the 8th or 9th November (for an 11am start) by telephoning Moorcroft on 01782 820510.

The Museum is delighted to welcome Antiques Expert, Eric Knowles, who will be giving FREE ceramic and glass identifications on Saturday 9th November.
This unique two-day launch event will also feature meetings with some of the famous Moorcroft designers and author, Neil Swindells, visual demonstrations of some of the Moorcroft craft techniques.
A very special vase to mark the centenary exhibition by Senior Designer, Rachel Bishop, called Meo Voto, will be available for the two day event only, and this vase comes complete with Centenary backstamp.
The Moorcroft Exhibition at the Potteries Museum will be open until the 18th January 2014.
