Lady Rizo Celebrates Release of Debut Album with a Triumphant Return to London
After a sell-out debut run at the Soho Theatre a year ago, Grammy-winning artist Lady Rizo makes her triumphant return to London on Monday 16th December 2013 to celebrate the release of her highly anticipated debut album Violet. Lady Rizo's return to the Soho Theatre features 14 shows during her three-week run.
Rizo's vocals, which have been compared to those of Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, and Etta James, are accompanied by lavish multi-instrumental arrangements on her highly anticipated debut album. Violet features songs composed by Lady Rizo as well as three classics, including a duet with the one and only Reggie Watts.
Described as a 'cabaret superstar' by New York Magazine with, according to Time Out New York, 'lusciously retro vocals' Lady Rizo (aka Amelia Zirin-Brown) has revived the genre, enchanting audiences across the U.S. and abroad with her dynamic voice and comedic, charismatic 'caburlesque' performances.
An ardent champion of live entertainment, Lady Rizo won her first Grammy in January 2010 for a duet with world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma on his 2008 album Songs of Joy & Peace and has also performed with multi-platinum recording artist Moby.
In her debut album, Lady Rizo showcases both her vocal and songwriting talents, producing a collection of songs that are powerful, elegant, bold and utterly captivating.
Her performance on her original 'Ink Dip' brings a soulful, sensual swagger to the pop genre while Rizo's anthem 'Song of Freedom' highlights the strength and sheer power of her voice in her singing and songwriting.
In 'Close to you' Lady Rizo fuses Burt Bacharach's 'Close to You' with 'Pure Imagination' from the 1971 film Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, in an imaginative duet with award-winning alternative comedian/musician Reggie Watts.
The album, recorded in Brooklyn and San Francisco last summer, also features a beautiful, new rendition of Jimi Hendrix's 'Little Wing' and another pair of originals - 'Dominika' and 'Hard Reason'.
