Date Announced for the First Ever Eden Valley Eco Fair

The Wombles have taken to the streets of Edenbridge this month, handing out leaflets outside the local co-op store, in an effort to promote the environmental / recycling aspects of sustainable living

The Eden Valley Chamber of Commerce based in Edenbridge Kent and Sustainable Edenbridge have announced the very first Eden Valley Eco Fair to be held in Stangrove Park, Edenbridge Kent on Saturday 22nd September.

The Eden Valley Eco Fair 2012 is a showcase of the latest in eco friendly products and services which perform a role in protecting the environment and making daily business and home lives more efficient, sustainable and eco aware.

This exciting free event aims to promote sustainability and local involvement and brings together a unique blend of eco business, local producers and suppliers, market and craft stalls, clubs, societies and community organisations with a live music and entertainment stage throughout the day.

The Eden Valley Eco Fair is designed to inspire visitors with new ideas and technologies, grow knowledge, introduce practical skills and innovation in the area of sustainability.

We plan this to be an annual event and expect it to grow. Already there's considerable interest in sustainability in the Eden Valley as well as nationally and, in a recession, there are plenty of money saving reasons and opportunities for such interest too.

We are setting out to make Edenbridge the premier eco town in Kent and the south east. It is already known as the first Fairtrade Town in Kent and at a time of economic difficulty we hope to attract more of these kinds of business to the area.

Peter Kingham, Eden Valley Chamber of Commerce chairman

Free entry and more than 50 stands and exhibits guarantee a great day out for family and business visitors alike but there's a hard headed economic reason for launching a fair like this at this time.

Open between 10am and 4pm for one day only the Fair is already looking to be a welcome addition to other visitor attractions in the area such as Hever Castle and Chartwell, home of Winston Churchill.

Exciting opportunity for community music in and around Edenbridge

Sustainable Edenbridge is very excited to announce some potential opportunities for community music in Edenbridge which could include the arrival of the ECO (The Eden Crash Orchestra)!

Eden Community Music is hosting an open access Djembe Drum workshop at BRIDGES on October 13th 1-3pm. This brand new initiative lead by community musician Cheryl Blake is offering Eden Valley residents the chance to try out djembe drumming following the outstanding success of similar groups in the Tonbridge area.

Cheryl is an innovative and inspirational teacher and over 200 Tonbridge children have now enjoyed her exciting workshops. The djembe taster session in Edenbridge is not just open to children -- anyone can have a go so why not bring all the family!

But djembe drumming could be just the start for Eden Community Music.

Do you play an instrument or know someone who does? A second workshop led by the fabulous saxophonist Joe Browne is planned at BRIDGES on 8th December. This second opportunity is open to young musicians of all abilities and beginners are very welcome so dust off your musical instrument and come along and rock the joint!

Sounds interesting? Why not join us at the Eden Valley Eco Fair and listen to these wonderful musicians between 2.30 - 4pm on September 22nd in Stangrove Park and see if you like what you hear.

Sustainable Edenbridge hopes that these workshops are just the beginning however, as these two opportunities have been arranged as taster sessions for the proposed arrival of the ECO (Eden Crash Orchestra) an open access community music project based in Edenbridge which is planned for the future subject to funding/sponsorship.

Could your business help provide a fabulous opportunity for young people and put its name on the musical map?

The ECO hopes from April 2013 to offer rhythm sessions with Cheryl using instruments made from recycled materials and instrumental sessions with Joe, Both groups will also work together to create an innovative fusion orchestra.

The music will reflect the sounds and experiences of Edenbridge and it is hoped that the ECO will present street performances at local events in and around Edenbridge.

Everyone would be welcome to join in these projects either as a young performer or as a sponsor; as the local business community can provide sponsorship of this worthwhile and exciting community project.
