1000's Invited To Shine at the Cancer Research Night Walk
Cancer Research UK is urging men and women to light up the country as the UK’s biggest and brightest night-time walking marathon, Shine, opens for entries.
Shine London takes place on Saturday 1st October and will bring together thousands of men and women at London's O2 Arena to take part in the walk through the night across the capital and help raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK’s life saving work.
Friends, families and colleagues are being urged to join forces to sign up now and get in training for the experience of a lifetime.
Walkers can choose between a full or half marathon route, and have the opportunity to decide to raise funds for a specific area of cancer research including breast cancer, lung cancer and leukaemia.
Everyone taking to the streets will be given a back sign to dedicate their event in memory or in celebration of loved ones or include messages of hope for the future.
We're delighted that Shine 2011 is coming to London for the first time this autumn.
We are inviting thousands of men and women to take part in Shine, light up the night and help symbolise the effort, dedication and progress of Cancer Research UK and its supporters. Walkers can choose the length of their route and which cancer to fundraise for so their Shine experience can be unique to them.
Joining together in this empowering event is a fantastic way to make a difference and help Cancer Research UK in the fight against this terrible disease which will affect more than one in three people.
Emma Gilbert, head of events at Cancer Research UK
Shine symbolises the light Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists bring to the lives of people affected by cancer through life-saving research.
Shine London is aiming to recruit 7,500 men and women to help raise £1.4 million.
The London event follows hot on the heels of Shine Manchester on Sunday 1st May and Shine Glasgow on Saturday 10th September and is open to all men and women aged over 13.
