So Babies Can Smell

So Babies Can Smell

Researcher have suggested that newborn babies are guided to their food supply by their noses.

It does make us wonder how much was spent on this research and how long the researchers took to discover their latest findings on hungry babies.

A trip to the local maternity ward or nursery could have given them their answers in record time - straight from the 'horses' mouth.

If you have every watched a baby feeding or had your own children, whether you breast fed or not, you will be aware that the smell of your milk or the formula was enough to make the baby start murmuring or turning round in anticipation.

Even baby animals will search out their mothers teat, from birth, by following their noses - with little help from their unfocused eyes. Did it really need world researchers to tell us that they had discovered what most mothers already know?

The plus point of the findings is the ability to look into harnessing the chemical, produced by the mother, that cause this attraction - in the hope of easing the transition for premature tube-fed babies who are ready to move on to breast feeding.

And that makes it all worth while...
