Jane Iredale - The Skin Care Make-up
When it comes to wearing makeup getting the foundation right is a must. Great looking skin is a major factor in the beauty stakes and by achieving a good base you are half way there.
Since we are not all blessed with perfect skin, some of us have to cheat and make the best of what we have to work with. And to achieve great results you will need the right product for you.
With the jane iredale range you will not only get a great look, you will also be looking after your skin and protecting it from the elements.
We trialled a selection of their range to see what benefits they had to offer and how well they wore...
Previously we had fallen in love with the jane iredale Dream Tint® Tinted Moisturiser. This absorbent tinted moisturiser hydrates while creating a soft-focus effect that minimizes the look of large pores and fine lines.
It calms the skin and at the end of the day we noticed that any blemishes had reduced and appeared less inflamed. In fact it wore so well we could have slept in it.
This is perfect for anyone who prefers to wear a light foundation cover or who is new to wearing foundation and can be easily applied with fingertips or a blending brush.
Use alone as a tinted moisturiser and sunscreen or as the perfect primer under mineral bases. All the shades are gluten free and suitable for vegans.
For when you need more coverage we can recommend the Glow Time™ Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream. Just a small pea-sized amount of product will give you complete coverage, while the mineral-based formula nourishes your complexion and helps protect skin from UV and free radical damage. Again all the shades are gluten free and suitable for vegans.
When you follow a gluten free diet it is essential to take into account what you are putting on to your body as well as what food you eat and jane iredale is a great choice for this.
We would advise caution in first applying this product simply because of the great coverage. With just the smallest amount dotted around your face and blended you should be able to achieve complete coverage.
Allow it to settle before dusting with Brush-Me Matte® for a matte finish or pop on a quick spritz of the hydration spray for a more dewy look. This product is non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, sensitivity tested, clinically tested, dermatologist tested AND water resistant up to 40 minutes providing Broad Spectrum SPF 25 and UVA P++ protection. It also makes a great under-eye concealer.
For luscious lips the range carries a variety of colours and products that will have your pout lined, defined, plumped and glossed to perfection. For us as non-lipstick wearers we wanted something a little more subtle and a lot more natural looking so we opted to try the PureMoist™ LipColour in Daisy.
This state-of-the-art liposome formula packs in moisture, color and staying power and comes in beautiful shades ranging from matte to shimmer.
With no FD&C dyes or synthetic preservatives this conditioning, moisturising formula is designed to be a drink for your lips and they taste great too. in either a delicious vanilla or mint flavour, that your lips will love.
All the shades are gluten free but vegans may want to avoid them as they do contain beeswax.
When it comes to eyes the jane iredale range has it covered, literally. Their Active Light® Under-eye Concealer is unlike any concealer you have ever used. Its unique ingredients create a soft-focus effect that conceals while it brightens and again less is more - start with a small amount of product and build it up.
The quality of the entire jane iredale range is such that each purchase will last a lot longer due to the small amounts needed to obtain great results.
We liked the coverage of this concealer, trying both shades number 1 and 3. Being a concealer and brightener in one, the Active Light® Under-eye Concealer also reduces inflammation and puffiness while disguising light creases and signs of fatigue.
Our only comment would be that throughout the day it did cause a little of our mascara to smudge* and was slightly oily under the eye. This could be due to the beeswax but if used with the mineral foundations or a light dusting to set this could probably be avoided. Again another gluten free product.
For those hard to cover breakouts jane iredale bring you their Zap&Hide® Blemish Concealer. Combining a spot cream as well as a concealer, use the 'ZAP' end on your spots as it contains beneficial antiseptic and anti-inflammatory botanicals, before covering the blemish with the highly pigmented, creamy concealer 'HIDE'.
We found the ZAP smoothed down any dry, flaky edges of the spots - creating a great base for the HIDE, which gave a thick matte coverage without looking caked on. It blends well either with foundation or on naked skin.
When it comes to mascara, it is hard to believe that someone has taken so long to show us the simplicity of a squeezable tube and we love the jane iredale Longest Lash Mascara.
If like us you want great lashes that look natural but sit well separated without sticking then you need look no further. You will not get great amounts of product coming out onto the brush and clumping up your lashes - just beautiful lashes that you can build on.
The colours in the range vary with some being gluten free but containing beeswax and others containing wheat so it is best to check before you buy. We tested Black Ice.
As a former casting director and producer working with top actresses whose complexions had to be perfect, Jane Iredale saw the need for make-up that would offer not just colour enhancement but also benefits to the skin, and which would mask imperfections without irritation and not cause spots.
In 1994 Jane set up Iredale Mineral Cosmetics and introduced the first full cosmetics line based on micronised minerals and made without fillers, perfume, chemical dyes or preservatives - to give flawless, long-lasting coverage with minimal product application.

*International Institute of Anti-Ageing Head Make-Up Artist, Danielle, had this advice regarding the application of Active Light® Under-eye Concealer...
I would always advise to finish all concealers with a powder personally, as the rest of the face will be finished with a powder. It helps to set, avoid movement/slip- therefore get longest wear possible and blend back in with the rest of the make-up - particularly important for photographic make-up.
You could use a large/deluxe shader brush with a small amount of pressed/loose mineral base or even HD Beyond Matte powder just to set from a cream to a powder. This will also avoid the product sitting in any lines around the eye area.
Also finishing by spritzing with a jane iredale hydrating spray avoids a 'powdery' look under the eyes. This leaves the eye area and entire make-up set.
