Westons Cider has won the 'New Frontiers' category of the prestigious Red Ribbon Awards of The Family Business Place. The Family Business Place is a leading resource for the family business sector and is making strides to raise the profile and prestige of the family business.

The national Red Ribbon Awards are now in their 5th year and have grown to become the most talked-about accolade for family businesses around the UK that recognise the achievements of family-run companies of all sizes and across all sectors.

The Family Business Place were honoured to present the Red Ribbon Awards to some of the best the sector had to offer and welcomed some of the UK's most loved family business names as well as small, undiscovered gems.

Helen Thomas, Managing Director of Westons Cider received the prestigious 'New Frontiers' category Award at Goldsmiths' Hall, London on 20th June 2014. The 'New Frontiers' Award is all about celebrating the family business that has embarked on brilliant new projects at home and abroad; including diversification of new markets, such as demonstrating how export strategies have been developed to grow the business outside of the UK.

Part of the process of qualification for the awards involved Helen having to answer:

  • Some biography into yourself and how you reached your current position
  • What skills do you bring to the job?
  • What is your view of the major challenges facing your company
  • What is the company’s USP?
  • What hopes do you have for 2014 - where does the organisation want to be at the end of the year?
  • What has allowed your company to survive and thrive in tough economic times?
