When we first discovered Dr Oats earlier this year we were pleasantly surprised at these meal/drinks - and even more surprised to learn that they contained all the goodness of wholegrain oats. Dr. Oats is a new brand launching it's first product, a nutritious fruit and oat blend available in three fabulous flavours. Chilled, healthy blends of fruits and oats that are free from artificial ingredients, wheat, dairy and soya. Dr. Oats Fruit and Oat blends use only 'not from concentrate' (NFC) fruit and premium wholegrain oats, offering natural slow release energy and goodness all packed into a single 250ml serving. Newly emerging company, The Little Mill, is run by Robert Mosse and his father. They have been making stone-ground wholemeal for bakeries in Ireland for many years and as millers they naturally have a passion for baking. They wanted to share some of their great recipes with everyone so they have recently started making baking mixes for quick and simple home baking. They have put together a range of their favourites, blended them into mixes and packed them into little bags ready for you to finish off at home. We taste tested their ware at the Speciality & Fine Foods Fair and think that if this is a sample of things to come then we are definitely looking forward to more. Keep an eye out for the launch of their online shop at www.thelittlemill.ie

Continuing the berry/alcohol theme, at Berry Good they mix it up a bit with vodka and gin! About 20 miles away from John O Groats, the county of Caithness is home to Tiree Cottage, where Berry Good is produced by a small, dedicated team headed by Jill Brown. Their Straight Strawberry Vodka and Raspberry Gin were both awarded two gold stars each in the Guild of Fine Food, Great Taste Awards 2012 - making them the highest placed/awarded Strawberry Vodka and Raspberry Gin in the UK.
