Closing date for entries 9th August 2013.

The search is on for the UK's best cupcake bakers with two competitions underway this year for both professional and home bakers.

Now in its fifth year, National Cupcake Week celebrates and supports the growth of an industry sector which has spawned a raft of new businesses across the UK and stimulated innovation in what has become a highly popular classic.

This year, professional cake specialists, craft and in-store bakeries across the UK are invited to compete for the title of National Cupcake Champion, with a brand new competition to find the best home baker.

This year's event is being staged by industry bible British Baker in association with Cake International - The Sugarcraft, Cake Decorating & Baking Show, which takes place at the NEC in Birmingham (November 8th - 10th 2013).

Tesco is named as a sponsor of National Cupcake Week 2013 along with Secret Ingredients and BFP Wholesale.

The relaunch of National Cupcake Week to encompass both professional bakers and, for the first time, home bakers, recognises the incredible popularity of National Cupcake Week over the past five years. The aim of the new look competitions, the switch to a bigger venue and a new date for the Grand Finals and our association with Cake International is designed to encourage participation from home bakers whilst continuing to build on the success already achieved in the professional bakery sector.

More than 200 craft, in-store bakers and home bakers are expected to vie for this year's professional (PRO) and amateur titles which will be judged on taste, flavour and innovation.

The competition deadline is August 9th 2013, with a panel of top judges convening in early September to shortlist the finalists. This year there are four different cupcake categories - Classic, Free From, With Alcohol and Themed.

Fifteen cupcakes will be shortlisted in each category and the names of the 120 finalists will be announced during National Cupcake week itself which takes place from September 16 to 22 2103.

The winners of both PRO and amateur competitions will be announced at Cake International at the NEC in Birmingham on November 9th 2013.

Last year's PRO competition saw 64 bakers compete for the champion's title. The winner was Emily Johnson from the Upsy Daisy Bakery in Hammersmith, West London.

It's really simple to enter - all we need is a recipe and picture of your cupcakes, and if you are entering the professional category, a short paragraph on your business.
